No we can't fuck the concept or the game will sucks, it > must be thought before coding or it will be impossible in the > future to make a cool game. No, as its an engine. The engine doesnt care whether its an AD&D rule style set in medieval setting or a sci fi with Shadowrun rules. Thats all done afterwards, after the engine is almost done. First we need to create the possibility to create a basic game, not like it is now. Then, when we have the engine so that it works, we can develop concepts on how the game should look. But as it was people were talking too much about the specialities of the world and the rule set of the world, but thats not the important part. Important is to first get A BASIC GAME going. We can always change the rules... The server does only manage objects in a real 3D world, and supports real actions, as known from the real world. Like grabbing, using, walking, putting away, Slashing, shooting. The server doesnt need to be programmed to support a specific game. That can be done after we have a server that can do all the handling of a 3d world. The server just answers questions that clients ask. Whats the position of the objects around me? Rotation of the objects? Can I use this object? If you mean with concept the concept of the data handling, yes, we need a concept. We need a concept for the engine and the server. But we already have a good one. Miguel developed a pretty good concept, but we need to get it going. If you mean the concept of the game afterwards, no, we dont need the concept yet. The game will evolve. The "test" game comes with the server. And when the server is done, we can ask for opinions how the rules should be, and edit them accordingly. The game concept is not really important right now. What we need to know are only basic things, like.. is it supposed to be 3D or 2D? Is it a normal world that follows general physics? Gravity and stuff like that... For type of game... I am actually here to create a MORPG. Doesnt need to be massive... we could start with 20 players and then later make it better. But definitely a MORPG. Else I could go to that SF warcraft clone or something. :P I dont know if there are other opinions, but I think that Arianne stands for the development of at least a MORPG, and not a racing game or a FPS game. I dont care if medieval or scifi or real world or what the topic is... but Id like to create something where players from all over the world can meet and have fun for free. SkyFlash |
