I tested the 21.1.0 version and when I opened a file, it didn't do anything. The file didn't play. I pressed play again and nothing happened. If you can give me some instructions on how to debug I'll be happy to try. Same results on Wayland Gnome and Wayland Plasma. Plasma-X11 appears to work fine.

What type of video card are you using? I'm using: CPU: AMD FX-8350 (8) @ 2.813GHz GPU: AMD ATI Radeon HD 7850 / R7 265 / R9 270 1024SP with plasma-wayland 5.20.3 mpv works fine by itself, and with settings as default - smplayer works fine, but just opens a separate window for video - however as you can see, when I try to tweak any of the settings to get it to play in the main window, major fail.
