About

A more secure way to browse the web. TunnelBear encrypts your internet connection to keep your online activity private on any network. Just open the TunnelBear app, select a country, and flip the switch. Once you're connected, TunnelBear will work quietly in the background to keep your data secure. Hackers can steal passwords and data over insecure public WiFi. TunnelBear blocks them to keep you secure. Network owners and internet providers can see everything you do online. With TunnelBear on, they can't see a thing. Some content is only available in certain regions. TunnelBear changes your virtual location so you can see it anywhere. Ad services use your IP address to track your behavior across sites. TunnelBear stops them by assigning you a new IP. Some governments block popular websites and apps. TunnelBear unblocks them by changing your virtual location.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy to Use – Simple setup and minimal configuration required. Fast and Lightweight – Optimized for performance with minimal latency. Multiple Protocol Support – Works with HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, and WebSockets. Public URLs for Localhost – Quickly generate a public URL to test or share local projects. No Signup Required – Can be used without creating an account. Affordable Pricing – Competitive pricing compared to alternatives like Ngrok. Works Behind NAT & Firewalls – Can expose local servers even if they are behind a firewall or NAT. SSH Support – Some versions allow SSH tunneling. Customization Options – Supports custom subdomains and persistent tunnels. Useful for Webhooks & API Testing – Ideal for testing webhook integrations on local environments.
  • Very fast integration with my jupyter notebook I liked the low-code feature. It was easy and fast as there was no installation. Great alternative to ngrok
  • No need to download anything. Just use the single command to start tunneling. It makes remote access very easy.

Cons

  • Nothing much really but will like more features, overall great.
  • Could not find any yet. The pricing is also much better than ngrok but could have been even cheaper.
  • As a student, I think no cons are to using Pinggy.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I am able to access websites that are restricted from my local IPs from anywhere with TunnelBear. It offers free Mbs for referring and tweeting them.
  • It's got a free version and the paid version isn't that expensive. TunnelBear puts a lot into their presentation with their cutesy bear animations and feels very modern and for more basic users just looking to get around region blocks to watch a video on YouTube or something similar. For most people, what it offers may be good enough. I used both the free and paid versions for quite a while, and never had any issues with paying or canceling when I did stop using it.
  • I like that TunnelBear has both mobile and PC applications. It has a lot of servers, which they allocate at fair cost estimation.
  • I like that TunnelBear offers free MBs for referring other users and tweeting them on Twitter. It is affordable and offers a lot of plans.
  • Easy to use app Great for privacy - No logging policy Available across most platforms and on mobile Supports up-to 5 devices per account Free version

Cons

  • Not only is TunnelBear slow and disconnects a lot, but even when I canceled 4 days early, they charged me for another month.
  • Unavailability of a lot of servers is the biggest issue so far.
  • When you do use it, expect your internet speed to slow down to an absolute crawl. There aren't many regions you can switch between. After a while, I was curious how well it was actually masking my location and while I could usually get around region-locked content, doing some tests made it obvious my location wasn't completely being hidden. If you're really interested in seriously increasing privacy, something like this isn't for you.
  • I do not have aspects that let me down while using TunnelBear.
  • I don't like how it has few servers and they don't offer more than one server for a single location.
