About

OrbitNote allows you to transform and interact with documents in a completely different way. Create an accessible, dynamic and collaborative space that works for everyone. Teachers can easily convert printed text into a PDF with our one-click OCR scanning technology. OrbitNote then takes care of everything else, ensuring that students have access to the tools they need, such as text to speech, highlighting, vocabulary support and everything they need to succeed - across all class content. OrbitNote allows students to express their understanding in many flexible ways. They can type or draw their thoughts on the page, which can aid planning. Students can highlight the key points in a comprehension piece or to help with studying. Both teachers and students can use their voices to send thoughts and feedback, and finally students can add shapes and images to their work.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • There are no pros, but at least there is something. The teachers are obsessed but students don't like it.
  • Automatic login is convenient not having to type in email all the time. However, it does lock you out from time to time.
  • None! We implemented it into the LMS and to my knowledge, it has not worked once for a single student/teacher for the entire year.
  • I do not have any pros to list for this product. It is one of the worst products I have ever had the disservice of even attempting to do a free trial for. If I could rate it zero stars or even somewhere in the negatives, I most certainly would.

Cons

  • Honestly, everything. The font size is messed up; it looks fine, but press backspace too much, and the size is massive. Also, the loading is so slow, and it deletes data randomly. Downloading is slow, and it makes you sign in so many times while also making you change permissions. It sometimes opens PDFs that you don't want, and it is just bad. Don't get why you would need it.
  • EVERYTHING. ELSE. I can't make copies of read-only documents anymore. I can't download, edit, or do anything with a PDF because it always needs the owner's password, when the owner is ME, and I didn't set a password!
  • Nothing! It has never actually worked for anyone!!
  • This program deletes random chunks of work from the fillable portions of PDFs. It does not allow individuals to pay for its use but does allow individuals to use the free trial version, immediately downgrading individuals as soon as the free trial period has ended. You then lose all ability to manipulate PDFs outside of highlighting, which is almost entirely unnecessary in regards to PDF editing. Even during the free trial, many of the features were incredibly glitchy - the program would allow me to insert text where I wanted to place it, then after I clicked away from the text box, the text would be sent to a random place in the document or disappear altogether. Text boxes would often duplicate or even triple themselves, causing a strange bold-type appearance to about half of the text in my document. OrbitNote actually deleted three months worth of work from a PDF I was actively using.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I liked that they have video lessons. Some of the teachers were really good, like the maths teacher in the middle school section. Their AI writing tutor really helped my boys tremendously to improve their writing. The management portal for the parents is easy to use.
  • The killer videos from interesting teachers. My kids like them. After the video they have questions to see how well the student understood. If they don't score well, it gives them more video explaining it more. The writing tutor activities are amazing -- my daughter has really gotten better as writer using this tool that is built in.

Cons

  • The lessons cannot be accessed before or after they appear in the syllabus. In the student portal the lessons activate one after the other, so the student cannot save a task to return to later. If they get stuck on a writing assignment which forms part of an actual lesson (not a special assignment), they cannot continue with the following lessons, until they have completed it. There are no easily printable, comprehensive notes which can be accessed at any time, from which the student can prepare for exams. There are really basic lesson notes, but you are only able to access these from the student portal, and only during the review lesson (once the child finishes the online review lesson, you are no longer able to access those notes). So if you want your student to review the written class material, you have to plan the timing really well. We have moved away from Acellus/Power homeschool because I have found the course material to be substandard. It is not nearly challenging enough to compare with regular schools.
  • I wish there was a way to do the live monitor on all my kids at once. One by one is cool but it would be better if I could see them all at the same time.
