Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Orange Logic is the only Digital Asset Management Platform (DAM) worth using. They are the only few DAMs that offer: • Asset AI Meta Tagging for Video and Image • Best for enterprise companies, small & large, don't get charge by the user seat. • White Glove service, every business is unique and they were the only solution that offered what we needed and how we wanted it to be customized for our company. • Easy to use platform and it does the work itself, I spend 1 hour a week managing everything. • Custom Integrations with our Software and Online Tools. It is very intuitive to use - both front and back-end. It is easy to configure and adaptable. The support team is responsive. Cortex makes it easy to upload, share, and download media files. It integrates with the Adobe suite and allows for our creative team to work remotely off proxy files. It's a flexible platform, and our integration team has been a joy to work with. The ease of creating multiple metadata mappings and the ability to batch edit on every field are considerable upsides to Cortex. These features work with relative ease compared to other products I've used over the years. My favorite feature of Orange Logic \| Cortex is their ticketing system, Link, where I can raise a defect, ask a question or request an enhancement. I can assign priorities ranging from critical to normal or even long-term. At any time I can log onto Link to see their status. Answered tickets are archived, so I have a complete picture of our evolving digital asset management system. Cons The only thing I was unhappy with was the time it took them to create our DAM system, but after the time it took to get it up and going, I can proudly say it was worth the wait for the setup. The system itself is excellent, but I think we all know it's the most low-cost system, which does cause some friction internally. I'm getting really nit-picky here, but I'd love for Cortex to support additional S3 storage tiers to save money on our cloud storage bill. It's on their roadmap though You can tell that Cortex was built to accommodate a wide variety of use cases. While that may play well for Orange Logic in attracting customers, it can be an overbearing product for end users. It took me several months to wade through the sea of Cortex functionality and hone in on what worked for my needs. Once you get through that, the product does well, but it feels like Cortex tries to be too many things at once. Orange Logic \| Cortex is a very granular, robust product. I know that I'm missing out on some features, but as the only power user, I simply don't have time to delve into all of them.	Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Customizability is their superpower. It's a well-thought-out, well-engineered platform, but the real strength is how it adapts — to your specific needs today, and to your needs as they evolve. From the outset of our relationship with SCC we have had consistent support and been thoroughly pleased with all aspects of their product(s). We have enjoyed 22 years of working together with the SCC team now and can unreservedly recommend them for any DAM needs either for smaller shops or at scale. Their commitment to best-in-class support is unparalleled and deeply appreciated. We recently migrated from on-prem services to SCC-in-the-Cloud and the transition could not have been smoother. We use SCC both as our photo archive and to manage and send assignments to our photographers. It works, it always works, and most importantly, it works well. Over the many years we’ve used SCC, we’ve asked them to do more, change things and develop new solutions for us, and they’ve never disappointed. SCC works with us, not against us. Their support is excellent — they listen, understand our needs and work with us to solve problems. It’s a reliable system backed by people who genuinely care about making it work for their customers. I have worked with the same handful of people at SCC for about fifteen years, across three different companies. That kind of continuity is almost unheard of in enterprise software, and it is why the support is as good as it is. They know how our system is organized better than I do, and they remember decisions made years ago that nobody on our side wrote down. You reach a real person quickly, and because they already understand the publishing workflows the product sits in, they can usually diagnose and resolve an issue very fast. When you are running weekly publications on deadline, getting back up and running quickly is critical. They are very flexible with customization and have worked with us to build highly customized integrations into our workflow systems. The platform itself is boringly reliable, which is exactly what you want from the system holding the photo archive. Ingest and workflow automation are deep: hot folders, FTP and email ingest, wire and stock provider feeds, and proper handling of IPTC, XMP and EXIF. Love how the platform is customizable to our needs. It's user-friendly and it's great to have all of our digital assets available in one place. And SCC staff are quick to respond to issues and suggestions. Cons It's tough to come up with a list of cons when you're working with a thoughtful motivated team that addresses concerns or issues when they arise. The deep knowledge and understanding of everyone on the team leads to solutions, not unsolved issues. We are having trouble coming up with anything we’d like to see changed. If pressed, I might suggest tweaks to the forward-facing GUI for modernization, but this is nearly inconsequential given the performance of the product in Production. Honestly, none. And I’m a tough client. After many years of using SCC and regularly pushing them to improve, change and develop things for us, I can’t think of a genuine negative. When we’ve had an issue or needed something different, they’ve listened and worked with us to solve it. The interface shows its age and has a bit of a learning curve. It has a lot of capability, but it is not always intuitive or easy to find. Because of that, occasional users may not love it, while the photo editors who live in it tend to be pretty die-hard fans. Some times I wish it would be easier to view the different media types together, for comparison purposes. I know it can be done, but the resulting view is a bit clunky. And I totally understand why because each media type has different fields.
