About

Follow friends and discover new ones among more than 4.4M people. Publish anything you want: links, pictures, text, video. All on a platform that is community-owned and ad-free. Mastodon isn’t a single website like Twitter or Facebook, it's a network of thousands of communities operated by different organizations and individuals that provide a seamless social media experience. Mastodon comes with effective anti-abuse tools to help protect yourself. Thanks to the network's spread out and independent nature there are more moderators who you can approach for personal help, and communities with strict codes of conduct. You have 500 characters. You can adjust the thumbnails of your pictures with focal points. You can use custom emojis, hide things behind spoiler warnings and choose who sees a given post. Messed it up? You can delete & redraft for quick corrections. Without an incentive to sell you things, Mastodon allows you to consume content you enjoy uninterrupted.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Nothing and nothing! At the beginning it seemed interesting to me, perhaps a place where I could write freely without any problems, at the beginning I trusted the social network, a new platform where I could insert my works, but not only were my works not seen by anyone, but In my opinion the site didn't even try to help me for a moment with the algorithm!
  • Easy to use, with practice. Easy to find other interested in the same things, (by use of hashtags etc). Easy to upload links, and images. Easy to follow others that on is interested in. Easy to complain, block - e.g adult messages.
  • Decent. Open. It is what you make of it. Decent people. The conversations are very interesting and there's a wide range of topics to follow.
  • No cockamamie algorithms, quality content and discussion. Very few trolls, and easy to get them banned. Decent web interface. Mobile app Megalodon is great.
  • Nothing.

Cons

  • Not only do you have an embarrassing character limit, but as soon as they see that you make a few more posts a day you are branded as a spammer and without thinking twice they block you and close your page as if you were a thief or a murderer!
  • Mastodon has cancelled my account. This time they cancelled me for "Inciting to Violence". This was simply not true.
  • Bit preachy. Ignore that. The UI is a bit heavy but very functional.
  • Somewhat hard to duplicate original twitter follows, but in the end that doesn't matter.
  • Its a clubhouse for the woke community, disgusting people.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • There is really no easier platform to publish written material and quality images than Minds.com . Creating blogs is as easy as creating a post, replies are easy and it's a great way to get feedback.
  • Minds is a free speech platform. You can earn crypto and boost your content. Great for content creators.
  • The interface is pretty easy to use and after several years the rewards became somehow valuable - Minds is probably one of the very first social media platforms focusing on crypto which took a while to really implement.
  • I tried Minds several years ago. It had a lot of potential. I only came back to Minds recently after having a very bad experience on Hive. Minds is a pretty good place to share your memes.
  • Alternative to Facebook as looked similar and could go there whenever was on a ban. Would be on there now if I hadn't been deleted.

Cons

  • It needs work on allowing multiple images in a thread and inserting videos. I'm not a user of its online community / chat features I use it to read and post to which I do often.
  • Not sure that there is a whole that I don't like. If there is problems, they seem to work on them pretty quickly.
  • Pretty hard to create relations and I am still not sure how to engage best within the groups there. It took a bit long until the tokens got value, at least it became after years an Ethereum token. Not that easy to cash out though.
  • Minds seems to be taken over by Conspiracy theories and Right Wing Politics. There doesn’t seem to be a way to earn a good amount of crypto. If you are just a normal person Minds seems to be saturated with Pro Trumpers.
  • No help from any admins whatsoever despite replying to every email accusing me of spamming.
