About

Whether you are an illustrator, designer, web designer or just someone who needs to create some vector imagery, Inkscape is for you! The design process may begin by doodles on a napkin, a sketched mindmap, a photo of a memorable object, or a mockup in software which really wouldn't work to complete the project. Inkscape can take you from this stage to a final, professional-grade design format which is ready for publication on the web or in physical form. Inkscape is free! By this, we mean it is free of cost, free to use and distribute, and open to peek into the source code.

About

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source raster image editor for photographers, digital artists, designers, and other creative users. It provides layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, text, vector tools, and brushes in a native desktop application, with a WebAssembly build that can be hosted separately. Users can make non-destructive edits with adjustment layers and live-preview filters, select subjects and objects on-device, and refine masks locally. The editor opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, supports smart objects and smart filters, and includes color-management tools for RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale documents at 8-, 16-, and 32-bit depths. PhotoCraft is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is distributed as free, open-source software.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • *Very User-Friendly & easy to learn *You can import graphics files (PDF,AI etc.) of other software as well. *New version 1.0 also has CMYK support *Awesome community on Facebook.
  • Free to use & Open source. Available on Windows, Mac and Linux. Community support. Great documentation - tutorials, blogs, how-tos.

Cons

  • Crashes sometime (but always a create a backup file). Less support on 3D Graphics.
  • Steep learning curve. Slow performance and loading times especially on older hardware.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • What I like most is that it feels familiar immediately. The layout, tools, shortcuts, layers, masks, adjustment layers, and PSD workflow are close enough to traditional professional image editors that there is almost no learning curve. The performance is another big plus. PhotoCraft is written natively in Rust and uses the GPU instead of wrapping everything in Electron, so the whole app feels much more lightweight than I expected.

Cons

  • The main downside is that it is still early alpha. There are still some tools, advanced typography features, generative AI capabilities, and plugin compatibility on the roadmap, so it is not a complete Photoshop replacement yet.
