About

Google Tasks is a task management and productivity platform designed to help users capture, organize, and track personal and professional to-dos directly within Google Workspace applications. The platform integrates seamlessly with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat, and Google Docs, allowing users to create and manage tasks without leaving the apps they use daily. Google Tasks helps users stay organized with features such as reminders, recurring tasks, task prioritization, starred items, and categorized task lists for different projects or responsibilities. Tasks with assigned dates and times automatically appear in Google Calendar, helping users schedule work sessions, block focus time, and stay on top of deadlines. The platform also supports synchronization across devices, enabling users to manage tasks from desktops, smartphones, and tablets while keeping updates consistent in real time.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It started off with promise. You can create tasks with notes and subpoints for the tasks, and it is incorporated into gmail as well.
  • Cloud connection. simple (some to do apps are overly complex, making them cludgy to use in practice).
  • Since this is a Google app, naturally it can be integrated with other Google apps like Gmail. If you're using a lot of Google products, this can make things a lot easier for you. Creating lists and tasks is very easy. There's 3 themes available; light, dark, and a battery-saving theme, which is something I haven't seen many apps bother to include.

Cons

  • The user interface has changed often throughout the years but it was always better to find a 3rd party service to deliver a better user interface. Over time, it found itself lacking features that other task programs do.
  • The 3rd party phone app gtasks is the only reason I still use google tasks at all. Google broke their web version by getting rid of canvas and eliminating nesting. And their web version (and phone version) have limited sorting capability (no alphabetical, despite being repeatedly requested).
  • There's not much you can do with this beyond sync it with other Google products. It's really, really simplistic to the point I was just left wondering, that's it? For it being an official Google product, I expected it to be a lot more than what it is.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I love how simple it is to use it and that I can use it on my work computer, personal computer or on my phone. I easily and quickly note all the information I need to review, remember, or reference.
  • I like the basic premise of infinitely embedded bullet points. The interface is fast and easy to use. Backlinks and mirrors to notes somewhere else in the system were a game changer that let me get a lot more out of the tool. I also love that I can sort by hashtag and that you can toggle completed bullets on and off.
  • Really easy to use, really fast, and has been increasing in what it can do over the years. I use it for all my main notes, lists, projects, etc.
  • - Minimalism - Infinite depth - Text-centred approach - No distractions - The way it allows users to laser-focus on a particular node - Reliability - My document is very large, and the app handles it perfectly - It's very good for software developers, musicians, writers, scientists, entrepreneurs and other creative people
  • Simple yet powerful, with unbeatable ease of use. Nothing else is needed to manage your tasks or archive your knowledge.

Cons

  • Occasionally the search bar doesn't allow you to enter a space between words, but a refresh of the page fixes this. Other than that, it works great!
  • Since I’ve been a user for a long time and haven’t kept up with the updates I don’t know if I’m getting everything I could out of the tool. The iphone interface makes it a little bit difficult to drag and drop bullets and I don’t think you can multi select on the phone, so I tend to use the phone to take notes and addd info but the desktop app or webpage to organize things.
  • I worry sometimes that the app is starting to move too much in the direction of Notion or others and will sacrifice speed and ease of use by doing so. But still great so far!
  • The mobile version is a bit less convenient. But it's a minor issue.
  • I can't find any, I've been using the tool for 8 years almost daily and I'm totally satisfied.
