About

Slack is a work collaboration platform that brings people, apps, data, and AI agents together in one shared workspace. It helps teams communicate through channels, direct messages, huddles, Slack Connect, files, canvases, lists, workflows, and integrations. The platform includes Slackbot, a context-aware AI agent that can summarize conversations, search across messages and files, prepare users for meetings, analyze documents, and help complete tasks without leaving Slack. Slack also supports connected apps such as Salesforce, Google Drive, GitHub, Zoom, Asana, Box, Workday, ChatGPT, and many others. Teams can use Workflow Builder to automate stand-ups, project updates, approvals, notifications, and routine business processes. With enterprise search, AI assistance, secure collaboration, and a large integration ecosystem, Slack helps organizations stay aligned, move faster, and reduce work scattered across disconnected tools.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It's still valid for occasional use if you have patience and use quite a few messaging apps. It's still an app that lets you have several messaging tools at once from the same interface, and if you're patient and not in a hurry, I suppose it's relatively usable.
  • The free version gave me the ability to have 3 messaging apps in one place, to see notifications for each, the ability to switch quickly between apps and sync with my phone and other devices. There was a 10 second wait before messages opened if you hadn't been on the app for a while. This was annoying, but not worth paying $4 a month to remove.

Cons

  • With the latest version, it practically forces you to buy the paid version, since it imposes wait times to open the application. I might buy the paid version if this one weren't so resource-intensive and slowing down the entire operating system, but I'm not going to pay for a clearly degraded application full of bloatware. What I liked about Franz was its speed; even before the latest version, it was getting worse and worse, but now it's literally unbearable. It's much better to use the applications separately.
  • Sometimes the messaging apps would glitch and you would have to disconnect and then reconnect the service. Worse, they've increased the penalties for using the free version. I wasn't prepared to subscribe, because all the additional features in the professional version were unnecessary to me. Now they've made the free app unusable, a cynical downgrade. Now, free users have to wait 15 seconds to revisit Franz every single time they navigate away for more than a minute. The messenger apps don't automatically open when the wait is up. You have to click to continue. In practice this adds 20 seconds every time I go to check a notification, which is wasting around half an hour a day. I won't be using Franz any more. As soon as I have a moment to find an alternative, I'll delete it gladly.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Slack is like a virtual office space where you can interact with all company members. You can add apps to it, you can create your own apps, you can link it to right about any software out there.
  • Slack is very user friendly and keeps all team communication in one place. I liked how easy it is to find messages, share files, and stay connected with coworkers.
  • Channels are impeccable for keeping conversations organized. Terrific for instant files and documents sharing. Great notification to keep us updated all the time.
  • I like how it boost team collaboration through messaging, video conferencing and live chat. I also like how it saves time while joining chats. Amazing customer support.
  • I found Slack as a perfect tool for collaborating and integrating other project tools. The interface is clean and the best part is it's available on cross platforms. The setup process was straightforward and it allowed me to create a custom channel to share files, discuss and track progress related to my project with assigned groups.

Cons

  • It takes some time getting used to its environment. Too many channels and notifications can sometimes feel overwhelming.
  • When there are many channels and active conversations, Slack can feel cluttered and hard to keep up with.
  • Effective with notification for quick updates on changes.
  • I have nothing to dislike at the moment since Slack is absolutely amazing with it’s work.
  • I had a great experience with Slack, no major cons.
