About

Document Naming Manager (DNM) is a locally installed Windows application for consistent, rule-based file naming. Users can choose or customize naming standards, add files individually or use a watch folder, review suggested filenames, and save changes. The software includes local OCR and previews, checks for risky filenames and naming collisions, and provides Recovery Vault undo for eligible recent saves, subject to settings and storage limits. Naming and OCR are performed locally; documents are not uploaded and cloud AI is not used. Internet access is required for activation, license verification, and updates. DNM is intended for legal, strata and HOA management, accounting, insurance, construction, and other office workflows that need consistent document names.

About

"Everything" is search engine that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name "Everything"). You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed. "Everything" only indexes file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database. A fresh install of Windows 10 (about 120,000 files) will take about 1 second to index. Everything can search file content with the content, search function. File content is not indexed, searching content is slow. A fresh install of Windows 10 (about 120,000 files) will use about 14 MB of ram and less than 9 MB of disk space. 1,000,000 files will use about 75 MB of ram and 45 MB of disk space. Your search windows will reflect changes made to the file system. "Everything" will run on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It is so quick… I can’t believe after dealing with file explorer for 30 yrs that anything like this was possible.
  • Does exactly what it says, it finds any file on any drive instantly. Lightweight. Plugin for PowerToys.
  • In the beginning, it was the greatest search app I had ever seen. But now a few years later, it no longer even searches everywhere at all. Something I know is on one of my drives and the drive is not even searched. I found Wise Jet Search and it is as good as I used to think Everything was.

Cons

  • So far, I’m just using it to find duplicate folders stored on different drives and portable drives, so I have found no problems at all.
  • Doesn't search file contents. No simple "advanced search" (regex is not for beginners). I like the minimalistic UI, but it could do with some graphical updates and options. You can customize the colors in the results window but not the rest of the program.
  • It stopped searching EVERYWHERE. Thing I know are there are not found. Thankfully there are other alternatives to the Windows search.
