About

Dial is a communication stack for AI agents that gives software its own real phone identity: a number it controls to place and receive voice calls, send and receive SMS, and message over WhatsApp through one REST API, MCP server, CLI, or SDK. It rebuilds a telephone stack originally designed around humans, SIM cards, carrier contracts, handsets, and verification flows so autonomous agents can communicate without dedicated hardware or manual carrier setup. Agents can provision a real phone number, make AI voice calls that follow instructions such as booking, confirming, or following up, and use live transcription with optional transfer to a human. Dial also supports two-way SMS and WhatsApp messaging, inbound calls and texts, AI receptionist behavior, and streamed inbound events. Agents can receive SMS verification codes for phone-gated workflows and react to communication events programmatically.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Before I found out about Telnyx I was trying Twilio, so it was really great that the Telnyx Twexit API is mostly compatible with codebases written for use with Twilio. The pricing isn't bad either.
  • Telnyx has always been the most reliable of the phone providers we use. They are also the quickest to respond and solve problems.
  • Prices are excellent and service offerings are fairly complete. Setup is easy and there are great tutorials for many systems.
  • The connectivity is exceptional. We have deployed in both US and Europe. Their customer service and tech support is amazing.
  • Excellent and ease to use and good service recommended for business/

Cons

  • Could be a pro depending on your perspective, but I wish Telnyx didn't go for the super personalized onboarding approach - as an introvert, I hesitated when I couldn't just spin up the docs and try it out via trial and error (you have to set up a call with telnyx engineers).
  • At first the portal UI was hard to learn to use to use.
  • There are some things missing like a fully functional SMS client. Need to use a 3rd party client or build own with the API.
  • Their display portal for the web connectivity report is lacking.
  • No cons.
