About

CivilTrace is Windows takeoff software for estimators at civil, sitework, underground utility, earthwork and paving contractors. It works with vector PDF plan sets exported from CAD. The Follow Line tool measures utility runs and is described as bridging symbols over lines, stopping at matchlines and ignoring profile grids. Read Callout picks up pipe size, material and slope from nearby plan text for estimator review. Smart counts classify structures from their labels, while Find Like This locates similarly styled lines across sheets. Estimators can calculate trench width, bedding and pipe-zone quantities, tonnage, waste, swell and truck loads using editable project constants, with adjustments by run, system or project. Separate takeoff libraries cover utilities, erosion control, paving and flatwork, demolition and structural foundations, with quantities brought together in a project takeoff.

About

Excalibur View is a drawing viewer, markup and takeoff program for construction, written by a working structural steel estimator. Markups are ordinary PDF annotations, so a set marked up here opens in Bluebeam Revu or Adobe with everything in place. It imports Revu .bpx profiles and .btx tool sets with their tools, custom columns and unit weights. Measure length, area, count, volume and angle at the drawn scale. Tools carry their own unit weights, so a measured beam puts tonnage on the takeoff as it is drawn. The Shop List reads the same markups back as a cut list, with stock length, saw kerf and drops. Free for one person, including paid work, with no account and no expiry. Offices add Excalibur View Office at $250 per seat, paid once, on a machine you own. Updates are an optional $100 per seat per year. There is no cloud. Drawings, markups and takeoff never leave your hardware. Source published under the Elastic License 2.0.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I'm not one who really gripes about privacy and data sovereignty but the ability for a company to self host everything without trusting corporations with their data I believe is going to be next level in these coming years. Its extremely seamless and I love the classic mode it kind of gives it a windows 98 style look lol. overall its freaking cool to use and the fact you can build your own plugins and modify it yourself is awesome. More construction software needs to be like this.

Cons

  • Some tools were a bit Janky which is to be expected with something so new, things like sheet overlay worked but took forever to load and was just slow.
