About
Caxton is a native macOS large file text editor and CSV editor in one: a workbench for logs, CSVs, TSVs, JSON, SQL dumps, and exports of any size. One app instead of a text editor, a spreadsheet, and a log viewer: open the file and work. Every delimited file opens as text and as a typed grid; edits in either view show in the other, and saving writes the same file back. Nothing is imported.
It memory maps the file instead of loading it into RAM. A 50 GB log (403 million lines) opens immediately with memory under 160 MB. A 10 million row CSV opens as a sortable grid in 4.4 s, past Excel's row limit. Methodology at caxton.app/docs/benchmarks.
Find and replace with exact counts, filters that keep line numbers, a log viewer mode with severity filters, file compare, 18 encodings, typed sorting, fill series, remove duplicates.
Built for data engineers, SREs, DBAs, and analysts. After the 7-day trial, opening, searching, and filtering stay free; a license adds editing and saving.

About
At its core is an interpreter for Emacs Lisp, a dialect of the Lisp programming language with extensions to support text editing. Content-aware editing modes, including syntax coloring, for many file types. Complete built-in documentation, including a tutorial for new users. Full Unicode support for nearly all human scripts. Highly customizable, using Emacs Lisp code or a graphical interface. A wide range of functionality beyond text editing, including a project planner, mail and news reader, debugger interface, calendar, IRC client, and more. A packaging system for downloading and installing extensions. Built-in support for arbitrary-size integers. Text shaping with HarfBuzz. Native support for JSON parsing. Better support for Cairo drawing. Portable dumping used instead of unexec. Support for XDG conventions for init files. Additional early-init initialization file.
