About
Write HTML, PDF, ePub, and Kindle books with R Markdown. The bookdown package is an open-source R package that facilitates writing books and long-form articles/reports with R Markdown. Generate printer-ready books and ebooks from R Markdown documents. A markup language easier to learn than LaTeX, and to write elements such as section headers, lists, quotes, figures, tables, and citations. Multiple choices of output formats: PDF, LaTeX, HTML, EPUB, and Word. Possibility of including dynamic graphics and interactive applications (HTML widgets and Shiny apps). Support a wide range of languages: R, C/C++, Python, Fortran, Julia, Shell scripts, and SQL, etc. LaTeX equations, theorems, and proofs work for all output formats. Can be published to GitHub, bookdown.org, and any web servers. Integrated with the RStudio IDE. One-click publishing to https://bookdown.org.

About
Notula is a free WYSIWYG Markdown editor for the docs as code already in your git repository. It opens the repo as a tree of documents and edits them with no syntax on screen - no hashes, no asterisks, no table pipes, not even on the line the cursor is on - then adds the review layer a code editor has no answer for: comment on a passage, reply, mention someone, suggest an edit, resolve. A mention arrives as a notification and waits in an inbox.
Threads are committed beside the document as plain files. Nothing is written into the Markdown, and a one-word edit stays a one-word diff. Tables are edited as tables and Mermaid blocks are drawn as diagrams. It drives the git already on the machine, and never rewrites history, stages the whole worktree or switches a branch.
Free, no account, no server. macOS and Windows, no Linux build yet. The source is closed and the builds are not code-signed yet, so the first launch takes one extra step.
