About

Atom is a hackable text editor for the 21st century, built on Electron, and based on everything we love about our favorite editors. We designed it to be deeply customizable, but still approachable using the default configuration. A text editor is at the core of a developer’s toolbox, but it doesn't usually work alone. Work with Git and GitHub directly from Atom with the GitHub package. Create new branches, stage and commit, push and pull, resolve merge conflicts, view pull requests and more—all from within your editor. The GitHub package is already bundled with Atom, so you're ready to go! Atom works across operating systems. Use it on OS X, Windows, or Linux. Search for and install new packages or create your own right from Atom. Atom helps you write code faster with a smart and flexible autocomplete. Easily browse and open a single file, a whole project, or multiple projects in one window.

About

kitty is designed for power keyboard users. To that end all its controls work with the keyboard (although it fully supports mouse interactions as well). Its configuration is a simple, human editable, single file for easy reproducibility (I like to store configuration in source control). The code in kitty is designed to be simple, modular and hackable. It is written in a mix of C (for performance sensitive parts) and Python (for easy hackability of the UI). It does not depend on any large and complex UI toolkit, using only OpenGL for rendering everything. Finally, kitty is designed from the ground up to support all modern terminal features, such as unicode, true color, bold/italic fonts, text formatting, etc. It even extends existing text formatting escape codes, to add support for features not available elsewhere, such as colored and styled (curly) underlines. One of the design goals of kitty is to be easily extensible so that new features can be added in the future.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - It has some unique features that allow developers to work and collaborate together. - It supports syntax highlighting and multiple numbers for programming languages through packages. - It has seamless integration with GitHub. - It can be customized easily by applying themes and plugins.
  • • Lightweight, which is a boon for small systems • Great GUI and interface, and allows you to customize it with external themes. • Can write code easily, and has auto-completion features, mostly for front-end development. • Integrates with Github which is helpful • It is open source, hence very customizable

Cons

  • - It does not have a proper comprehensive documentation for beginner developers to get started with the application. - There are occasional performance issues.
  • Atom takes some time to load initially, but otherwise I haven't had any problem with it.
