About

Atom is a hackable text editor for the 21st century, built on Electron, and based on everything we love about our favorite editors. We designed it to be deeply customizable, but still approachable using the default configuration. A text editor is at the core of a developer’s toolbox, but it doesn't usually work alone. Work with Git and GitHub directly from Atom with the GitHub package. Create new branches, stage and commit, push and pull, resolve merge conflicts, view pull requests and more—all from within your editor. The GitHub package is already bundled with Atom, so you're ready to go! Atom works across operating systems. Use it on OS X, Windows, or Linux. Search for and install new packages or create your own right from Atom. Atom helps you write code faster with a smart and flexible autocomplete. Easily browse and open a single file, a whole project, or multiple projects in one window.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - It has some unique features that allow developers to work and collaborate together. - It supports syntax highlighting and multiple numbers for programming languages through packages. - It has seamless integration with GitHub. - It can be customized easily by applying themes and plugins.
  • • Lightweight, which is a boon for small systems • Great GUI and interface, and allows you to customize it with external themes. • Can write code easily, and has auto-completion features, mostly for front-end development. • Integrates with Github which is helpful • It is open source, hence very customizable

Cons

  • - It does not have a proper comprehensive documentation for beginner developers to get started with the application. - There are occasional performance issues.
  • Atom takes some time to load initially, but otherwise I haven't had any problem with it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • By supporting Text Factories, the platform enables customers to build text processing workflows that are automated. This function streamlines complicated text conversions and automates repeated activities to increase efficiency.
  • When it comes to advanced features for search, text modification and automation, BBEdit delivers unparalleled performance and it’s hard to find a rival on the Mac. It handles enormous GB size documents at ease and has powerful shortcuts and many options for customization.

Cons

  • Even though BBEdit is user-friendly, new users may need to invest some time in learning how to utilize all of its complex capabilities. On the other hand, consumers may gradually explore more complex features, and the fundamentals are intuitive.
  • It can be said that it lacks features that would make it a proper integrated development environment, which is why it’s not my editor of choice any longer. It also takes time for the team to add new features to the app. Some may find the interface lacking buttons and visual cues.
