Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Very comprehensive set of APIs that allow the developer to create complex applications. The support has also been excellent.
  • A very high quality SDK for all things PDF. As I understand it, it's based on the same code that Adobe products (e.g. Acrobat) use for PDFs, with some additions. That makes it essentially the reference SDK for PDF. The included support can be very helpful. Can be used with C#, Java, and C++.
  • - It has one of the largest collections of PDFs. - There is a lot of variety for all the genres. - It has an easy and simple UI.
  • Adobe PDF library is a nice and fancy tool. It has a lot of options and choices to choose from. Recommended.
  • It makes it easy for managing documents. It offers files type conversion with a PDF reader. Very easy to use. Easy to create, edit documents and read large PDF files.

Cons

  • Because there are so many APIs, it takes a while to fully understand them and how they are used together.
  • It's for-pay closed-source software. Has a bit of a learning curve to get started, at least when used with C++. Probably not a good match for very small projects.
  • - The price of the software and PDFs is quite expensive.
  • I liked the platform so far. I don't have any cons as such.
  • It worked great for me. Nothing to share about cons.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - Clean, minimal interface - Ability to work completely offline - Ability to view different layers of PDF documents
  • Only cross-platform PDF Editor. The functionality is good, and I would not hesitate to recommend the product if not for the stupid direction they are going under the new owner.
  • Feature-Rich: PDF Studio offers extensive PDF editing and annotation tools. User-Friendly Interface: The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. Robust Annotation Tools: Includes various tools for document review and collaboration.
  • Pencil feature - This works well on my surface pro. I can use the pen to draw and write comments on documents, and the marker to highlight text. Page resize - I have used this to resize from A4 to letter. As well as resizing the page, you can also scale the contents which is very handy! Redacting - I have used the redaction feature to cut sensitive information from documents. I was able to mark the areas to be redacted and then apply them in one hit. Works great!
  • It does everything you need from a Professional PDF Editor (like Adobe Pro DC) but without the stupid monthly subscription that places like Adobe would charge you.

Cons

  • - Small controls sometimes hard to see in bright daylight
  • The Apryse support department has gone downhill - they will not even test the product when a bug report is filed with an example file, insisting that the user jump through hoops including reinstalling the product and showing screenshots of what was done, even when there is only one way to do the thing described in the report. The new owner does not honour the perpetual licence conditions, which included free point release updates, and discounted annual upgrades, insisting that users go onto a more expensive subscription just to get what they already paid for. The user interface has regressed, replacing window decorations with their own and not picking up colours or settings from the selected theme and thereby losing integration with the system user interface, both visually and in the way the windows respond to user interaction.
  • Performance Issues: May struggle with large or complex PDF files. Support and Documentation: Less extensive support and documentation compared to Adobe. Not Open-Source: Requires a paid license and is not open-source.
  • Sometimes the 'Edit text' tool can be tricky, but I was able to find the content in the sidebar and edit it there. Also, I think the icon could perhaps be different.
  • It's not the prettiest UI in the world but I can live with that :)
