  • Years ago, I worked on this project and helped introduced the world's first open source 3:2 pulldown deinterlacing algorithm. In many ways, this project performs better than a lot of capture programs because of the excellent work some of the authors did in creating MMX assembly-language deinterlacing algorithms, that was able to deinterlace on a Pentium 233Mhz computer, and better deinterlacing at 400Mhz. So dScaler performs fast as a result, and even several of the dScaler filters have been adopted by the likes of other projects like ffdshow and avisynth. Anytime you use a new open source capture program, it has probably borrowed some of the open source code from this project. Back in the late 90s, this was the first time any PC program was able to real-time deinterlace live video, back when computers were only 233Mhz!

  • As far as video capture programs go, this has to be one of the best out there. It's unfortunate that this program doesn't really bill its self as a video capture program, because I feel the demand for a good VC program is huge, and this one can really do it. Right now though it seems to be having audio issues on newer systems. Hopefully development will pick back up.
