AcademiX GNU/Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution developed specifically for education. The distribution was built on the Debian Linux (Stretch / Buster) distribution and contains free software for education. The programs included in the distribution are for all levels of education – from primary to upper and / or university levels.
The AcademiX Linux distribution includes an installation utility that can be used to install a variety of applications in mathematics, physics, chemistry, geography, biology, statistics, electronics, amateur radio, graphics, office, programming – which are accompanied by virtual interactive labs, and a virtual microscope developed in collaboration with NASA. • I have installed AcademiX on various older computers and just worked. With a relatively small ISO, for which the distribution is wanted, the installation went easy and fast as well as starting. I like the MATE desktop, which is good for low resource consumption and stability. AcademiX will be a challenge for other lightweight Linux distribution. The applications in categories are just listed, not pre-installed as in other distributions for education. I found that the AcademiX GNU/Linux is a great release for education and I kindly recommend it in schools. What about EDU (another Software Manager)? The point is that the package names apparently encrypted from synaptic are enrolled in sections that are easier to find at the teaching level so at least you know whose purpose it is. I like EDU because you can easily choose to install the desired application with one-click from an educational category. Therefore, compared to Synaptic, I think EDU is useful for beginners and more intuitive for students and teachers. In Menu, I found also documentation that can be improved and organized in a better way. I also found some GUIs for beginners such as Software & Updates, Additional Drivers, Packages, Package Updater, Hardware Lister. I am glad to see applications for science too. E.g. Medicine and Engineering. I use Main Menu, removed Advanced Menu (looks like to be Brisc Menu, somehow buggy). I'd like to see the "Reset to default" option in some settings, e.g. background. AcademiX GNU/Linux is orientated to education, but anyone could use this distro for daily works as a regular user. I tested AcademiX GNU/Linux since beta versions, I decided to use on my daily working machine.

  • As a teacher, I consider this distribution the most courageous and valuable project for the modernization of the operating systems in the Romanian education.

  • There are so many positive things to say about AcademiX that I do not have enough room to do so. Instead, I'll sum everything up with simply one word - "EXCELLENT." A big hearty Thank You to all the developers responsible for this fine Distro which is the utmost best Windows replacement. The developers at AcademiX did not just settle for an Operating System that would work up to Windows 10 specifications, instead they made a much better Operating System than Windows 10 could ever be. When I previously used Windows 10 on this computer I would have to add-on a lot of aftermarket programs to do what AcademiX 2.3 does straight out of the box without any add-ons. After using AcademiX 1 for awhile, why would I or anybody else want to use the sub-standard Windows 10? I state this from the perspective of someone who works on(including building) computers for myself, my family and others AND I've done development work for Microsoft. Just to be able to work on other people's computers, I keep several computers with different versions of Windows on them. This is to keep me up to date with other people's computers I work on. Now that I have totally switched to AcademiX on my personal computer, I realized now more than ever exactly how poor the Windows Operating System truly is. Let's hope with Microsoft's renewed interest in Linux, they will not do to Linux what they did to Windows.
