I've heard the same on the list from others using ISA SB16 cards (AWE32/64 == SB16 + h/w wavetable synth). The kernel driver probably just doesn't support the realtime features that Xine needs. Also, I don't think it supports 48 KHz playback, which is the rate needed for DVD audio tracks (half of 96 KHz, the original encode rate), which may be adversely affecting you. What kernel are you running? I don't suppose you just happen to have a Linux-friendly PCI audio card handy to try?
