It would depend upon the question and/or opinion. If someone can answer the question they may respond if they think they can give a reasonable answer, especially if no one has given an answer. If it is an opinion some might issue an agreement or disagreement, or chose not to respond if they think a response is not relevant. I just up to 0.99.12 from 0.99.11 and a "feature" (perhaps the developers consider it a "bug" and therefor "fixed it) was removed. I often open two or more xine players to play different streams at once. This worked fine until the above update now when I open the second (or higher) stream from command line (or in this case xfce menu) it replaces the first stream with the second. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT (I want them to play side by side). I tried playing with various settings and even looking at some of the source code and am totally lost on how to get this functionality to work. The closed I came was disabling XLockDisplay but that only worked from the command line and often left the video/audio system unusable after exit. -- Aryeh M. I have a weird issue here. Players which use xine-lib cannot play opus audio in ogg container. But same opus file plays in mkv container. Players I've tested with are Quod Libet and gxine. The only error I get is: xine-lib: error: The xine engine failed to start.: The stream could not be opened. The version of xine-lib is 1.2.9. The OS is Gentoo 64 bit. Other players like mpv and ffplay have no problems playing these files. -- Cheers, Saul |

Alioth mercurial repositories (hg.debian.org) were archived last weekend and are not anymore accessible with hg. I've synced current development trees to sourceforge mirrors. Links to repositories can be found from https://sourceforge.net/p/xine/_list/hg . Ex. hg clone http://hg.code.sf.net/p/xine/xine-lib-1.2 xine-xine-lib-1.2 Switching old checkouts from alioth to sourceforge is also possible by directly editing .hg/hgrc. I'll push all new commits directly to sourceforge. Currently e-mail notifications to xine-cvslog are not working (there are 8 subscribers). It is possible to subscribe for similar notifications from sourceforge pages (little envelope icon, after History link in hg web title bar). Torsten, do you have sourceforge account ? - Petri |

I'd be interested in knowing also but I don't think it's had any real development work done in at least 6-7 years. I finally had enough problems about 3 years ago that I switched to using VLC which works fine for my needs but I have a soft spot for xine from the old days. I suspect the original project is pretty much gone at this point. Someone took over the 'home page' duties here: http://xinehq.de/ but there haven't been a lot of updates. Maybe someone in the know will respond but maybe not. looking at xine-user you'll see how dead it's become: https://sourceforge.net/p/xine/mailman/xine-user/ Sadly, Mark |

Hi, I recently came across a VDR [1] together with the xineliboutput plugin [2] which provides a minimalist media player that plays most audio and video formats fine, such as H.264: --- $ ffprobe -i test-x264.mp4 [...] Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], 2556 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 12800 tbn, 50 tbc (default) [...] --- It _doesn't_ play H.265, though: --- $ ffprobe -i test-x265.mp4 [...] Stream #0:0(und): Video: hevc (Main) (hev1 / 0x31766568), yuv420p(tv), 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], 781 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 12800 tbn, 25 tbc (default) [...] --- ffmpeg is built with both "--enable-libx264" and "--enable-libx265". The relevant xine plugins are installed and working (including xineplug_decode_ff.so). The changelog for xine-lib 1.2.5 (1.2.6 installed) says "Recognise & use HEVC/H.265. (ffmpeg)". Looking into this, I found that plain xine on the system in question doesn't play the file, "Video Codec: Unavailable (hev1)". ffplay does. Something I could try to make this work? [1] http://www.tvdr.de/ [2] https://sourceforge.net/projects/xineliboutput/ Thanks, --- --D. |

Hi, I try to play an inserted Audio-CD by calling xine with xine cdda:// This works well on my CentOS 6 installation but fails on a Fedora 16 system with error message "No CDDA plug-in found". But when I do a xine --list-plugins on this system, "cdda" is listed in section "Demuxer". So any idea what is missing or what I could try to let xine play my CD? Thanks! |

Hi, I want to run a post plugin by adding it to the xine.conf config file. However when I do that the plugin does not get started. Only when I specify it on the command line it works. Do I need to specify something additional in the config file to get it to start? The entry line for the xine config would be: post.dfatmo.parameters:driver=boblight,top=4,bottom=2,left=2,right=2,analyze_rate=200,analyze_size=3,brightness=150,enabled=1 (which does not start it). And a: #export DISPLAY=:0 #xine -f --post=dfatmo:driver=boblight,top=4,bottom=2,left=2,right=2,analyze_size=3,enabled=1 file://root/ambilighttestvideos/RGB\ Test\ Sequence.mp4 works. How can I get the same by using the configuration file only? Besides that, when I run it on the commandline the plugin functions however it looks like there is a huge lag. Any way to improve that? Thx, hm |

Hello, I use a DVB-C USB stick with Kaffeine 1.2.2 and libxine2-1.2.3-89.3.x86_64. When I start Kaffeine I get video, but audio often is silent. When I change the TV channel or select the start channel again, audio appears again. Sometimes I can watch a channel and audio just disappears after some time. I does not matter if I use pulseaudio or ALSA, it happens with both audio systems. Audio generally works fine with kaffeine or VLC, this is a pure DVB issue with Kaffeine/libxine. One hint: when I run Kaffeine and audio is lost and if I start mplayer with this command, audio is there on mplayer: cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 | mplayer -cache 15240 - In other words, DVB works fine with mplayer, audio and video. I tried different decoder priorities with a/52, ffmpegaudio and dxr3-mpeg2 with no success. Below there is the content of my /home/foobar/.kde4/share/apps/kaffeine/xine-config Thanks for any hints! Hi, At the outset, I don't really think this is purely a xine issue but more likely something about the way I build xine on Gentoo or more likely new mp4 files. Thanks in advance for any ideas. I've used Handbrake on Gentoo for quite awhile and never had much trouble with xine or any other player. However I was getting Handbrake from an overlay which seems to have gone dead soI've put together my own local overlay. Handbrake seems to rip fine, and the mp4s play fine on my TV using it's built-in software to play from the USB drive, but xine is crashing with these new files like this: mark@c2RAID6 ~ $ xine DVD/A\ Night\ At\ The\ Opera.mp4 This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.7. Dear Sir, Week ago I have asked for your permision to translate your web page and I didn’t hear any from you since. I really think that is important to connect ex Yugoslavian people with the information that I ‘ve found on your web page. I hope that you will find time to review it,it would mean a lot to me. Hi, I've recently become aware that xine-ui-0.99.7 is not doing everything that 0.99.6 did : if I run it from an xterm, or otherwise pass a filename to it, everything is fine. But if I open it without any filename and then try to open a file using right-click Open -> File the file isn't opened. This is on the current and previous linuxfromscratch releases. Supposedly, Slackware have reverted to 0.99.6 because of this. The problem still exists in current hg. Using 'hg bisect' points the blame to: The first bad revision is: changeset: 3004:89b0fe6d3b88 user: Darren Salt <li...@yo...> date: Thu Mar 18 22:02:00 2010 +0000 summary: Allow JPEG for splash & logo etc.; move splash and logo down a source dir. I haven't managed to revert all of that commit on 0.99.7 (too much fails to revert, and I think I screwed up trying to fix the configure script). I've no idea what is _missing_ from that commit (it works when a filename is passed to it, the changes to the source files look sensible, so I can't say that the commit is bad, but I presume it must be missing something). Just to be clear, the presence or absence of xine-ui_logo.mpv in the skins/ directory is not the key factor, otherwise my bisects would all have worked because I had one there from 0.99.6. Configured with: sed -i '/#include <curl\/types.h>/d' src/xitk/download.c (recent curl) and sed -i 's#info_ptr->## /RGB/icolor_type = png_get_color_type(png_ptr, info_ptr);' \ src/xitk/Imlib-light/load.c (libpng-1.5 and later, fixed in current hg) and for ./autogen.sh [ we have the latest autotools ] sed -i 's/AM_CONFIG_HEADER/AC_CONFIG_HEADERS/g' configure.ac then passing --disable-lirc ĸen -- das eine Mal als Tragödie, das andere Mal als Farce |

Dear Sir, I am writing to inquire regarding your web page about the xine engine FAQ list where I have found a lot of useful information. My name is Anja and I'm currently studying at the Faculty of Computer Science in Belgrade. Here is the URL of your article: http://www.xine-project.org/faq I would like to share it with the people from Former Yugoslav Republics: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I would be grateful if you could allow me to translate your writing into Serbo-Croatian language, that is used in all Former Yugoslav Republics and to post it on my website. Hopefully, it will help our people to gather some additional knowledge about computing. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks Jon. I'm giving it a try. If you have a link to any step by step instructions about getting to an mp4 please post them back. I've found a couple in Google that I'll try later today. Here's what I tried: I put a DVD in the drive, switched to an empty directory and after looking at the rather terse help output ran dvdbackup -F This ran, create a bunch of files under the name of the DVD but so far I can't get handbrake to recognize more than a 20 minute chunk of the movie. There were messages about bad blocks and other things, but dvdbackup didn't die like Handbrake. What I'd like to get to is just an mp4 of the movie. I don't need any other features from the DVD. Hi, Nominally I use a program called Handbrake to rip movies I might watch on disk later. Handbrake works well, but at times it isn't able to do the rip. Either the output is corrupted or it hits a bug and crashes, etc. Interestingly every movie Handbrake hasn't be able to rip I am able to watch in Xine which leads me to ask the question is there any mode wherein Xine will save the movie to disk? If so help me find the right man pages or online instructions. It's not important to me if it's inefficient or slow. I won't have to use it often, but it would be nice to have a backup method when Handbrake doesn't work. Thanks, Mark |
