I'm with the windoze croud this time. Most DVDs are fine on my PIII500 but most DVD only use 2/3 of the screen; see the size of window xine opens compared to the immage displayed. Now rent a DVD that uses ALL the display area (Billy Elliot [region 2]) and check your CPU usage again. Up at 100% from 80 and with 10% frame drop! This DVD played fine in windoze on my ati player. I didn't check the CPU usage 'cos I was watching the movie... Yes I've got Xv & raw and they do make the difference but occasionally its not enough. On the plus side, the kernel and XFree are getting faster and driver support is increasing. PCs are getting faster and by the time xine is finished (which looks like it could be soon) a 500MHz machine will probably be basement minimum anyway... Xine does just plug & play on SuSE. Errrg got to go... Keep up the good work. Paul Gibbs DDI - 01845 521024 Teleware Plc, Station Road, Thirsk, YO7 1PZ -----Original Message----- From: Jeffrey W. On my Athlon 650, a mid-range machine when I bought it 18 months ago, Xine hardly uses any CPU at all. Certainly it uses less than 100%, which is all that is needed. On my Athlon 1.2GHz, I can barely see it in top. As long as you have a card capable of Xv, and a DVD drive capable of DMA transfers over the raw device, you'll be set. The key to Xine isn't a huge CPU, but correct use of existing resources. I can even use Xine to play DVDs on my 400 MHz powerpc, which is a sorry CPU indeed. -jwb _______________________________________________ xine-user mailing list xin...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/xine-user _____________________________________________________________________ This message has been checked for all known viruses by Star Internet delivered through the MessageLabs Virus Scanning Service.
