you're talking about YUY2 ? libw32codec will produce this format for
certain codecs, e.g. microsoft's mpeg4 implementation

in this format the U,V data is interleaved with the Y information,
subsampled by 2 horizantally and in full resolution vertically. So you
have something like

Y U Y V Y U Y V Y U Y V Y U Y V ...
Y U Y V Y U Y V Y U Y V Y U Y V ...
