I tried to compile xine-lib-rc8 on one computer and later just use "make install" to install it on another computer with the same configuration except without the development packages. This failed because when you execute "make install" the build system tries to compile some parts of the code and this fails on the second computer that doesn't have the development packages. If I have understood things right "make" should compile the code and "make install" should install the code and compile code ONLY if "make" hasn't been run before "make install". This is a limitation of libtool which we cannot work around currently. If it is doing anything more than that, please post the full error from console here. As a solution to your problem: Why not installing with DESTDIR on the build machine and then copying over the installation to the other machine?
