OK, thanks. I've uploaded two screen shots from the menu of the DVD. As far as I can tell from your explanation, there is no letterboxing going on (no black bars whatsoever). This shot shows the aspect ratio chosen by xines 'auto' mode: http://ryoko.camperquake.de/DAV/xine-auto.jpg The distortion can be seen from the border around the logo, which has to be a square. The aspect ratio is correct on this shot (manually set xine to 'dvb' aspect ratio): http://ryoko.camperquake.de/DAV/xine-dvb.jpg The latter is the aspect ratio automatically chosen by some hardware players I tested the DVD in.
