Im using Xine to play DVDs on a Gentoo/MythTV HTPC. Ive been back and forth between different versions some using ebuilds and some from source, and mainly using a Xine spinoff, VeXP. I discovered yesterday that VeXP wouldn't play encrypted DVDs, so I assumed that this was because VeXP is based on an old version of Xine (I still dont understand VeXPs version numbering system so I dont actually know which version its based on!) or that it was just even crapper than I thought it was :P So as a test I uninstalled it and emerged good old normal Xine, and it too refused to play normal DVDs. Ive installed libdvdcss three times now (from ebuilds, both stable and ~x86, which are the same BTW), and both VeXP and Xine seem to be using it in some way. And those DVDs that wouldn't play on the HTPC work perfectly fine on my main machine, and Ive only just installed Xine on that too!?! I remeber the error was coming from demux_mpeg_block; this one- 'demux_mpeg_block: warning: PES header indicates that this stream may be encrypted (encryption mode 1)' Im pretty sure it was mode 1. OH! And I live in the UK, and Im not afraid of being extradited under the DMCA!!! :D Thanks very much, George |
