I am a newbie to DVDs and xine. I have built a new PC because my old one was to slow toplay DVDs for my grandchildren. I decided to install Mandrake 9.1 download as well as the default MS XP I found versions of various Video players on Mandrake and on the same DVD from Linux format. I had difficulty finding PLF but eventually loaded VLC with urpmi. I found that xine now supported commercial DVDs The problem is that the video under xine is perfect but the sound breaks up. Pointers as to what I should do or further data I should collect gratefully received. When I play sound CDs with Xine the sound is perfect. The motherboard is a GIGAbyte GA-7VT600 1394 which states that the on-Board sound is Realtek ALC655 CODEC Mandrake Control centre says under Sound card that it is VT8233 (AC97 Audio Controller) The module used is snd-via82xx with an alternative via82cxxx_audio. Trying this alternative causes the sound to fail. Windows XP control panel says under sound - Realtek AC97 Audio for VIA Audio Controllers Eric Bridgewater |
