I'm using SuSE 8.2 as well. I don't have a DVD drive in my computer so I cannot speak regarding DVD playback performance issues. I am however, having similar performance issues with every other video type I attempt to play. I've noticed that it isn't just a problem w/xine's xv playback, but this issue also appears when using MPlayer. I cannot watch .mov files anymore, as the performance in the radeon driver for X4.3 is so poor that the video lags behind the audio almost a full 5-10 seconds w/dropped frames. I did NOT have this problem running the same files through the same versions of both xine and MPlayer under SuSE 8.1 and xfree4.2. This might be an issue that needs reporting to the XFree people. I know the new ATI drivers support some of the newer radeon cards, and therefore are probably buggier than they used to be due to new code.
