There should really be a section with some common Xv issues and their solutions. A few of these include: - Solid black video window with 3Dfx (upgrade to at least XFree86 4.1.0) - "Half a picture" with assorted cards - mostly seen with ATI cards? (Lower resolution/bit depth, disable DRI) - Trident cards and vertical bands jumbled (upgrade to newer XFree86/experimental Trident driver) - No Xv with RivaTNT boards (must use nVidia binary driver) - Mach64/Rage3D (not Rage128/Radeon) cards/chips get no XVideo with standard drivers (get GATOS drivers) - Others? I'm pretty sure there are more. I think these are pretty important - some of this is touched on in the Xine HOWTO, but it needs to be here too, and it really needs to be up to date. The one about the 3Dfx boards is particularly niggling, since whoever's supposed to be maintaining the Xine HOWTO never corrected the reference that says XFree86 4.0.3 will fix that problem - it didn't, and I've answered that particular question more times than I can recall on xine-user. A few of the others are not addressed at all in the Xine HOWTO. Also, some other chip/driver combinations support XVideo video acceleration: - Chips&Tech 6555x, 68554, 69000, 69030 - Certain SiS video controllers - Certain NeoMagic video controllers - Certain SiliconMotion video controllers Of course, I don't know how frequently any of these actually pop up in modern systems (NeoMagic == never, because they are dead). -- Derrik Pates dp...@ds... dp...@vo... |
