Some video buffers must be stuck somewhere in the engine. You told you are using a cvs version? Since this doesn't happen here, maybe you got a Monday's version? Could you try a fresh checkout? Some additional questions come to my mind: Does this happen with any streams or just with some formats? Does this happen even if you don't play anything and just start and quit xine?
