Hi: Due to some Xv problems I was forced to try the Xshm vout. So after playing a bit with xine I was unhappy with the fact that when using the xvidmode option, after choosing the nearest available video mode xine would still try to scale the video to obtain a perfect match of video size <-> mode size, the problem is that even scaling from 756->800 takes a lot of cpu and in my machine (k7 550) that makes the diference between smooth and choppy playback. I solved the problem with a modeline for a tipycal DVD size, but it would be nice if one could have a zoom/don't zoom flag along with the xvidmode one. This way xine would change video mode to the nearest one and only zoom if that flag was set (and the sizes didn't match), otherwyse it would just center the picture in the screen. This is certainly very useful for low end machines that don't have XVideo available.
