Looks like COM\DCOM security issues at first glance. When the wrapper is running as a service by default it uses the Local System Account which has restrictions on network resources. Try setting different logon credentials for the service either via the mmc console or the wrapper properties in the conf file: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-account.html http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-password.html Hope it helps, Ori Argov -----Original Message----- From: wra...@li... Olaf, Not a very helpful answer, but I am not actually sure which platform they were built for. The HPUX versions of the Wrapper are build by users who volunteer to help out with releases. If you download the src distribution, it should be fairly easy to build the wrapper on ea platform as follows: ./build.sh -Dos.name=HP-UX64 On HPUX64, you have to set the os manually. If you just run ./build.sh then it will build the HPUX version. Cheers, Leif Olaf Zschiedrich wrote: >Hello, > >may anyone can give me some information about the wrapper running on >HPUX 64bit. Hello, may anyone can give me some information about the wrapper running on HPUX 64bit. We like to run a J2EE server application on different HPUX 64bit machines. Some of the machines use Itanium as a processor while other using the PA-Risc architecture. In the past we had some problems with native libraries on the different systems cause there is no binary compatibility between Itanium and PA-Risc. So here is my question:=20 On the tanuki website i only can find one download for HPUX 64bit! Is this version able to run on both processors architectures? =20 --=20 Mit freundlichen Gr=C3=BC=C3=9Fen E&E information consultants AG Olaf Zschiedrich Gesch=C3=A4ftsfeld Produkte Technische Leitung Produktentwicklung Invalidenstra=C3=9Fe 112, D-10115 Berlin Phone: +49-30-280 488 + 355 Fax: +49-30-280 488 28 ola...@ee... www.ee-consultants.de |

Hi,
I have tried to build the wrapper as you said using both java 1.4 and
1.5. I am still getting errors. Please find the attachment.
Request you to help.

default source release 1.5
Gnana,
This appears to be a change in the way Java 1.5 handles compiling.
I specify a target JVM of 1.2 in the build file but was not specifying=20
the source.
I fixed this for the next release, but for now, open your build.xml file
into an
editor. Search for the javac task, there are a couple instances in the=20
file.
Modify them as follows, adding the source=3D"1.2" attribute to each one:
<javac srcdir=3D"${src.dir}/java" destdir=3D"${build.classes}"
deprecation=3D"on"
debug=3D"on"
optimize=3D"on"
source=3D"1.2"
target=3D"1.2"> <!-- The 1.2 target is done so we work =
with
older JVMs -->
<classpath refid=3D"project.class.path"/>
</javac>
That should fix it for you. It would also work if you used Java 1.4 to=20
build.
Cheers,
Leif

Leif,
Sorry for the big delay...
But, NO, my Wrapper controlled JVM is a server application, which does not
need even an user logged on.
I never needed to display any GUI in this application........
But once it is running, any other apps fail to start the GUIs via the
command prompt........
And in fact, these apps hung in the show() or setVisible().
Thanks,
Rogerio.

I take that back. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, the different control sets are different copies of settings used to boot your machine. Your ControlSet002 is some previous version of boot settings that Windows saved. Subject: [Wrapper-user] Wrapper Service Problem =09 =09 Hey all,=20 Thanks for all the responses so far for other questions I have had. With your help I now have about 10 services up and running properly. However, 1 service is causing me some problems: I have installed the service and that worked properly. Then I went to start the service and it started fine. Now the big issue: 1) if I try to stop the service, windows says that it doesn't exist=20 2) if I try to start the service it says its already running=20 3) if I try to uninstall it says its still running so cant=20 4) if I try to install it says its already installed as a service.....(which conflicts with 1.) )=20 5) the service does NOT show up under windows services when in control panel=20 I am not sure what would cause this given that all other services are working properly. If you have any idea as to how this could happen or what to do it would be greatly appreciated. (Worst case scenario I can just rename the service and run it as that, but my managers don't want to do that ) Since this was one of the first services I wrote a few weeks ago, it is possible that I changed some of the ntservice properties in the config file while the service was unknowingly running. Would that explain this problem? And is there an easy way to fix it? Thank you in advance=20 Ross Klingensmith=20 |

I would just like to state that this problem has been fixed. Brian, thank you very much for pointing me towards the registry to look into this problem. I removed the key in the registry under controlset2 and now it works. Once again I would like to thank everyone for being so helpful with support for this product, it makes development much easier. Leif, With all starts/stops I am using net start/stop XXX. XXX is both the service name and the display name. I have/had them both set to the same value. For all uninstalls/installs I am using the batch files provided with the wrapper. The wrapper.exe and java.exe processes are NOT running. **NOTE: I also just replied to another response containing this: My service is NOT under currentcontrolservices in the registry. It is under controlset02 but not under controlset01. So there is a ghost on the machine, will removing it from controlset02 fix it? Matt, You actually want to be doing this as follows: wrapper.java.library.path.1=../lib wrapper.java.library.path.2=../license wrapper.java.library.path.3=../lib/dll wrapper.java.library.path.append_system_path=true That said though, it will break if the PATH contains quotes. I'm afraid that the only solution at the moment is for you to remove the quotes. I got this fixed in CVS and it will be in the next release. The fix only works with the method shown above. Gnana,
This appears to be a change in the way Java 1.5 handles compiling.
I specify a target JVM of 1.2 in the build file but was not specifying
the source.
I fixed this for the next release, but for now, open your build.xml file
into an
editor. Search for the javac task, there are a couple instances in the
file.
Modify them as follows, adding the source="1.2" attribute to each one:
<javac srcdir="${src.dir}/java" destdir="${build.classes}"
deprecation="on"
debug="on"
optimize="on"
source="1.2"
target="1.2"> <!-- The 1.2 target is done so we work with
older JVMs -->
<classpath refid="project.class.path"/>
</javac>
That should fix it for you. It would also work if you used Java 1.4 to
build.
Cheers,
Leif

Brent,
I just went back and tested this with the latest code. If your
WrapperListener.start
method returns new Integer( 9 ) then the Wrapper correctly exists with
an exit code of 9.
Looking more closely now, I also see that your wrapper.log file confirms
this as well.
Where are you seeing an exit code of 1 or 2? The problem may be
that the Wrapper
process itself is returning an exit code or 9, but the application you
are using to start
the service is returning 1 or 2. That is a different process. How are
you starting the
service from your java application?
The Wrapper captures all console output from the JVM and sends it to
the Wrapper's
console output as well as to the wrapper.log file, depending on the
wrapper.conf.
Once again, you may not be seeing the output because you are looking
for the output
of the application that is being used to launch the service and not from
the service itself.
You may need to create another marker file on service exit to get
that information
back to your controller application.
Cheers,
Leif

Brent, I added the following to that page to make it a little clearer: --- Properties can be specified from the command line when using any of the Wrapper commands, including the -i command, used to install the application as a service on Windows systems. When running the wrapper and its JVM as a console application using the -c command, the specified properties will override any values in the wrapper.conf file and be used when launching the JVM. Likewise, the -i command, which is used to install the wrapper as a service, will remember the specified properties and then use them later when the service is actually started. Likewise, the specified properties will be used to override values in the wrapper.conf file while installing the service. All other commands will make use of command line properties to override values in the configuration file. These will effect logging or the way the service is referenced. They will have no effect on the running JVM. It is not possible for example to pass a property value to a service while starting it with the -t command for example. --- Cheers, Leif Brent Palmer wrote: >I'm trying to pass in a configuration property from the command line using the wrapper.exe and the -t option. MessageIf you install your service, than after that you change the =
property "wrapper.ntservice.name", you will effectively create a ghost =
service...
You cannot start nor uninstall the service......=20

It is possible, but the problem still remains. Under windows services =
it is not there as a different name either. Would changing the name =
while it is installed remove the old name from the list and NOT put a =
new one in?=20
Its basically like there is a ghost service on the machine.=20
And i have tried changing the name back to the 1 other name it was =
before at some point, but that did nothing.

Subject: [Wrapper-user] Wrapper Service Problem
Hey all,=20
Thanks for all the responses so far for other questions I have =
had. With your help I now have about 10 services up and running =
properly. However, 1 service is causing me some problems:
I have installed the service and that worked properly. Then I went =
to start the service and it started fine. Now the big issue:
1) if I try to stop the service, windows says that it doesn't =
exist=20
2) if I try to start the service it says its already running=20
3) if I try to uninstall it says its still running so cant=20
4) if I try to install it says its already installed as a =
service...(which conflicts with 1.) )=20
5) the service does NOT show up under windows services when in =
control panel=20
I am not sure what would cause this given that all other services =
are working properly. If you have any idea as to how this could happen =
or what to do it would be greatly appreciated. (Worst case scenario I =
can just rename the service and run it as that, but my managers don't =
want to do that )
Since this was one of the first services I wrote a few weeks ago, =
it is possible that I changed some of the ntservice properties in the =
config file while the service was unknowingly running. Would that =
explain this problem? And is there an easy way to fix it?
Thank you in advance=20

I'm trying to pass in a configuration property from the command line using the wrapper.exe and the -t option. It works when I use the console app option but not the service app option. Here are the commands I'm using. C:\>wrapper.exe -c ../conf/wrapper.conf wrapper.java.additiona l.3=-DCLEAR_LOCKS=true C:\>wrapper.exe -t ../conf/wrapper.conf wrapper.java.additiona l.3=-DCLEAR_LOCKS=true I assume you are supposed to be able to do this based on the following quote from the JSW docs [http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/props-command-line.html] " Properties can be specified from the command line when using any of the Wrapper commands, including the -i command, used to install the application as a service on Windows systems." =20 Hi, I've run into a problem with appending the system path. Our application requires system libraries (on all platforms), and the following works in all cases except one: =20 wrapper.java.library.path.1=3D../lib%WRAPPER_PATH_SEPARATOR%../license%WR= A PPER_PATH_SEPARATOR%../lib/dll%WRAPPER_PATH_SEPARATOR%%PATH% =20 If the Windows Path has been altered by a previous 3rd party application to include quotes, the wrapper fails with the following: =20 STATUS | wrapper | 2005/07/14 12:58:53 | --> Wrapper Started as Service STATUS | wrapper | 2005/07/14 12:58:53 | Launching a JVM... INFO | jvm 1 | 2005/07/14 12:58:54 | java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\AppName\bin;c:\Program Files\SecondApp\lib;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT ERROR | wrapper | 2005/07/14 12:58:55 | JVM exited while loading the application. =20 In this example, the Windows %PATH% was: =20 "C:\Program Files\AppName\bin";c:\Program Files\SecondApp\lib;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT =20 If I change the path manually and remove the quotes, the wrapper starts up normally. It looks like the quotes are interfering when the wrapper parses the properties. Advice? =20 Thanks, Matt |
