Hi there, I have installed the wireless driver and it's working quite well, thankyouverymuch. There are two things that might make it better for me.... I'm running a Wallstreet w/ OS 10.2.8 and I ran into the same problem reported by Andrew Gallatin back in December '02. For those of you who don't remember, it has to do with wep and a RoamAbout card. In short, it doesn't work. He theorized some sort of race condition. One reply to that email was this: > From: Rob McKeever <robm@ma...> > Re: can"t transmit 85% of the time.. > 2002-12-03 21:46 > It hasn"t been checked into CVS yet, but will be shortly. Needs a bit > more work and some cleanup before I can do this. > > -Rob ...referring to a potential fix. Rob, are you out there still? Is this fix available, or possibly available? Or is the consensus that WEP is a waste of time? In the meantime, I'm using a "Closed Network" -- does that really protect me? On a probably unrelated topic, I have another machine running OS 8.6. That machine is plugged into my Airport Base Station via ethernet. When I turn Appletalk sharing on both machines, the OS 8 machine can see the OS X machine, but the OS X machine doesn't see the OS 8 machine's shared disks. Is this because the driver only supports "TCP/IP" type of Appletalk traffic? Is this something that the non-free wireless driver might solve? Thanks for any and all help, Bark! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - Send 10MB messages! http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail |

I've been working on the code in order to re-worke it into a Wireless framework for use in OpenDarwin. I have it running on Panther and OpenDarwin. This is WirelessDriver/WirelessCard/ . I'll provide an installer within the next weeks, right now my main focus is to get the driver into better shape and provide a decent cli tool. I'm still getting my head around a lot of the code, but it looks promising. Since this sourceforge project seemed rather dead, I thought about taking the code and rework it to nicely integrate with OpenDarwin (while still be as usefull on OS X). felix - -- gpg-fingerprint: 076E 1E87 3E05 1C7F B1A0 8A48 0D31 9BD3 D9AC 74D0 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (Darwin) iD8DBQFA8Y5dDTGb09msdNARAoVgAJ4n09GQbena49S546D/K84u1jSmrgCfRrNZ PzuSIRmIvExv0N8MACAlZV0= =PhIN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Has anyone built the driver under Panther with xCode? What are the specific steps? Where is the latest source code at. No code seems to have made it into CVS for about 2 years. I understand there was some recent code with new features such as improved WEP support. I was emailed a copy of development source code at the end of last year, but wonder if any further development has taking place or how stable the code is. (I have not used it.) Thanks in advance. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Life Events gives you the tips and tools to handle the turning points in your life. http://lifeevents.msn.com |

Your wireless has a self-assigned IP address of 169.254.255.255
Go to System Preferences, Select the WirelessConfig icon on the bottom,
and select a wireless service you want to connect to.
When you see a signal strength you should be okay.
Now select the Netowrk icon and look at the IP address for the en1
connection. It should say something other than 169.....

I upgraded the proc on my Pismo to a G4. It is a upgrade that is soldered right onto the board and there is no driver needed to run the CPU. Since returning from FastMac it is unable to even "see" any wireless signal. I did a removal and re-install of WirelessDriver 5.1, booting into OS 9 and manually removing all the files. Still, when I open the driver, there is no signal visible in the status bar. Before I got to any great lengths like trying a different card, does anyone have any thoughts on this? What might be more effective is to move your wireless base station out of the basement. Or if you cannot do that, locate it in the rafters of the basement. The problem is that when your wireless signal has to go through a cement or cement block wall, it ist no going directly (at right angles) thru it, but rather has to go on a diagonal - which may mean it has to go through several feet of concrete. 2.4 ghz is straight line only. If you locate the transmitter in the ceiling of the basement it will have a lot less cement to go through to get to the rest of the house. Don't forget that it is a two-way transmission also - your PCMCIA card has to be able to make the return trip connection. Having a stronger transmission signal on the base station will not help this. kori On Jul 2, 2004, at 11:25 PM, wir...@li... wrote: Send Wirelessdriver-support mailing list submissions to wir...@li... I want to fit a Demarctech Reliawave=81 802.11b 300mW High Power Wireless PC Card (uses the Prism 2.5 chipset) to my G4 Powerbook (running os 10.3.4). But alas, no fun. There's a link to the wirelessdriver from the Demarctech driver page (http://www.demarctech.com/products/reliawave-rwz/reliawave-rwz-300mw-prism= 2 -5-pcmcia-card.html) , and although it says "untested", this implies that i= t should work, right? Does 'untested' mean unsupported, you're on your own, we'll sell you one, but if you want any help, adios! Anyone have any experience with this card? It was made aware to me after I bought it that 300mW frequency is illegal i= n the UK, the limit here is 100mW. Might this be the problem? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks |

Can someone list me the complete steps for making my wireless card to work. There were many variations on how to do it and I am lost. I am not good at Unix commands, but I noticed a post that indicated the instructions had an error early on. Is there a loader perhaps that could help. I have a wallstreet powerbook using OS 10.2.8 A belkin wireless router. I have two cards the Orinco Silver and A belkin F5D6020 (version 1) It seems from the post this is not compatible. **Warning for someone purchasing this card my box said ver2 but a label was placed over the card itself indicating ver.1. I would stay away from any belkin card purchase and save your money. I cannot get the EN0/1 to show up after inserting the card. thanks |

Thanks for the thought! I checked into their website also. The driver=20= I downloaded from them didn't work, and then i saw this disclamer: =E2=97=A6 11 Mbps PC Card Wireless Adapter (DWL-650) = (Please note: D-Link=20 uses the same model number for cards with different chipsets. Hello - I need help. Macintosh PowerBook G3 (333MHz), 256MB RAM Mac OS X 10.2.8 I just bought my powerbook g3 (lombard 333MHz) a Belkin Wireless Notebook Network Card. Model #: F5D6020 which came with a wireless router. Problem is, my PowerBook has a kernel panic every time I insert the card. Booting with the Wireless Card inserted with Verbose mode, notes that a kernel panic occured, taking it out and rebooting will get it working again. I have a Keyspan Firewire Card that I use for FW hard drives which works when in the machine, so it can't be my card slot. The card itself is brand new. I plugged it in prior to installing the wirelessdriver - and it panic'ed. I installed the wirelessdriver, rebooted, inserted the wireless card - it panic'ed. I rebooted with the wireless card in place - and it panic's during startup. (verbose mode noted "panic - hanging up here.") I read the FAQ and it notes that my card F5D6020 is supported by the driver, but at the moment, I can't even get the card inserted without causing a kernel panic. I've also looked at the troubleshooting section and I'm using version 1.4.0 of the IOPCCard.kext. Is this hardware related or software conflicts?? This is my first time with Wireless Networks. If anyone can help. Thanks. James. |

To the best of my knowledge, this card won't work. It is PRISM, but
does not contain any on-board firmware. The WirelessDriver does not
have the ability to load firmware onto the card.

to en1 or en2. As far as I know, Built-In Ethernet should be the same
thing.
The first time I installed from a user account and entered my admin
user and password in to install.
I then logged into my admin user, uninstalled, rebooted, inserted the
card into my PCMCIA slot, installed and rebooted.
When I open up the wireless pane all the controls are greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is only for the Atheros chipset, and the OrangeWare site says so, but there's no label on the Orinoco card that says what's running inside, and Apple System Profiler does not provide that info either. I asked the folks at OrangeWare and they said "We don't know, but it might - vendors change what chips they use in the same card. Download the trial." so I did and it didn't work.

Indeed, since this is the only option for many of us.
I just tried the OrangeWare ver 3.0 driver in my Lombard/Orinoco Silver-Gold/Jaguar and it told me that "No supported wireless card was found."

Thanks |

The source code on CVS at SourceForge and the web page have not been updated for about 2 years. The developer was working on some code to improve WEP support around Christmas time and shared that code informally with a few people but did not post it, but I do not know how stable it was and do not know if any development is going on. I hope the project is not dead. _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
