Howdy, while translating lang/en of VirtualMin I ran across some values that I missed to translate and then forgot, sorry. Now I am in front of v 1.4 and what the heck do the fowwong entries mean? ;-) index_quota=Total quota index_squota=Total alloc index_uquota=Total used Exspecially "Total alloc". As I never dealed with quotas I have a german word present though, but I want to be exact as possible. And what about this one? form_desc=XXX Any hints? The config.info files that you can skip are : proc/config.info at/config.info man/config.info As they are really just links to corresponding files in webmin on my system. Hi Jamie, you once noticed me that in some parts of Usermin I only have to take care about ulang/<lang> and uconfig.info.<lang> instead of lang/<lang> and config.info.<lang> because some of the lang/<lang> in Usermin are acutally symlinks on your system from webmin/lang/<lang> to usermin/lang/<lang>. Hi, I am using webmin on port 10000 over apache as proxy. Apache is configured to forward http://localhost/webmin/ requests to webmin. I found two peculiarities : 1. the switch user button directs the browser to http://hostname.domain/webmin/ instead of http://localhost/webmin/. 2. When 'Log changes made to files' is disabled, there is a hyperlink 'Logging of file changes' in the Actions Log module. The link seems to broken because of webmin being proxied over Apache (I get a 'Not Found' message, inspecting the html source reveals that the link misses the '/webmin' directory). I guess the link needs to be constructed using one of the options 'webprefix' or 'webprefixnoredir' ? A question : I already found lots of user documentation on webmin. Is there also good developer documentation available ? I am especially interested in the use of webmin's internal functions (header, use of acl's etc.). While developing my own modules, I often get warnings about the use of uninitialized values in webmin's functions, probably because I use them in a wrong way. The problem, as you said, is that the zone has to be read whenever it is being looked at, modified or wahetever. I see no way around that since the information may well change. I have done some simple timing tests: to read the zone (either dynamic or static zones): 10 seconds to parse the zone into the required structures: 5 seconds so to 'read' a zone takes about 15 seconds. Dynamic zones are using dig whilst static ones are read direct from the file. There is no real difference in time between the two. to remove the '$GENERATE' entries: 20 seconds Ah! This one line is a 'grep' in the edit_master.cgi script. If I comment that out, because we have no generates in there, and dynamic zones certainly won't see them, then the time drops to 15 seconds again - that is, just the time to read the zone. to format and display the zone at this point: 1 second so the displaying of the number of different records in a zone is not a problem. Next bit is displaying particular record types: Removing the $generate entries: 20 seconds Selecting the particular records to display: 1 second Sorting and displaying the records: 14 seconds Okay. We can get around the $GENERATE bit for dynamic zones, and for static ones we can probably cache something as the zone file is parsed. The perl 'grep' seems to be slow and perhaps could be replaced with in-line code or a faster function. The actual reading of the zone and its parsing may possibly be speeded up, and the same for the displaying of the records. I don't see it as "large-ish"... but one of my zones has 122 IN A or IN CNAME records. No problem with it. (even though now I have a "larger" server, it also worked OK with a Duron 500, 1/2 GB ram, with over 1000 zones for bind, and the server is really "loaded"... several httpd, xinetd, sendmail, etc... a full virtual server schema, and of course, each virtual running each own webmin/usermin -- and 5 running mailman 2) cheers! Hello, Is anyone using any of the available DNS modules with large-ish zones? Not a large number of zones, but zones with a lot of records in them. I've just loaded the University's 18,000 or so records on to a test system. The standard bind8 module works okay but loading the zone, and selecting individual records takes a time (around 30 seconds). This is on a Sun Ultra10 with 512MB of memory. The system is doing nothing else. I really just want to know if this is something to look into or is it something local here. Currently using webmin 1.090. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps :=20 Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people.=20 In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=3Dsw,titles=3D1,charset=3Diso-6666-6 Swahili The lang=3D part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The titles=3D part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional charset=3D part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use.=20 Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon.=20 In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory.=20 In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw=3D line that is a translation of the desc=3D line.=20 In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists).=20 In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html.=20 A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work.=20 You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially.=20 When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to Martin Mewes at we...@we... so that he can include it in the main Webmin distribution.
