Hi Paddy, I finally got around to looking at your patch, and it looks good so far. One small suggestion though - perhaps it might make sense to move the code that works out what URL to redirect to into a function in the appropriate feature-*.pl files? That way there could just be a single .cgi that does the re-direction to whatever that function returns. That's really a matter of taste though .. Anyway, let me know when you think this patch is done, and I will be glad to include it in the next Virtualmin release .. - Jamie On Tue, 2004-12-07 at 12:02, paddy wrote: > Jamie, > > Sorry this has taken me a while to get around to. > > Attached are two patches, but they are as yet rather rough. > > They attempt to implement the following on edit_domain: > > config option for 'check_config on page load' > button for check_config > features table is now 1x4, instead of 2x2 > col1: feature > col2: enabled? > col3: configured? > col4: details (if -x details-$feature.cgi) > individual check_$feature_config subs in each feature-$f.pl > individual details-$feature.cgi redirects > > The flaws are no doubt legion, but I feel I should highlight > that _at least_ the following are still on my todo list: > > lang support: 'ui text' -> $test{'ui_text'} as appropriate > feature plugins > webalizer (mine is broken ?) > make details-dir redirect to file manager ? Hi, In the bakery this morning, a lady said "I only have to see fresh cream and I blow up like a baloon". There was a strange light, a moment of quiet and the unshakeable impression that all the ladies, customers and staff alike, were sharing a moment of telepathic psychic unity. I almost expected some cheesy "choirs of angels" film music, and then it was gone. Really, I kid you not. Attached is a little number I'm calling fondant_index although the actual implementation takes place in the lib, and a by the numbers icon collection to go with it. In it's defence: language independence appeals to some users economical on space, easier to read a thousand links on a page (scary!) low in calories Nevertheless it could probably use some cleaning up. Also attached: webalizer bits. check_configured and details.cgi sketches for webalizer. I finally read the code/figured out how virtualmin does it. Random Musings: This webalizer check_configured starts to expand on the idea of a more than binary output. I have already wondered whether the dependencies of a a given service couldn't be structured so as to enable a generic implementation and rapid customisation. But that's a long way off ;) I currently have a set up where all the webalizer runs off a single daily cron job. This has the virtue of queing the jobs rather than kicking off a large number simultaneously, I'm lazily imagining the converse for the present setup without actually checking the details. In general, I can't see how it could be practical to trace all possibities when it comes to figuring out whether a job is cronned or not, perhaps some index is called for. Of course this is a general problem. Standard disclaimers: Yes, none of the code is good enough to include yet, although I hope it is worth looking at. I still have a todo list :) Although (in my walter mitty imagination!) I am an experienced programmer, my perl is at 'pigeon' level. I mostly 'monkey see, monkey do', I will certainly misguess the consequences of some logical operations, leading to straight-foward bugs, and I have no concept of what is happening under the covers, so can make only simple guesses about performance implications. Beware! Thanks once again for looking at this stuff. Regards, Paddy -- Perl 6 will give you the big knob. -- Larry Wall |

Attached is a simple demonstration program using the technique I was thinking about, which uses javascript. I indebted to jotti, at whose excellent 'online virus scan' I first noticed this technique: http://virusscan.jotti.dhs.org/ Regards, Paddy |

Jamie, Sorry this has taken me a while to get around to. Attached are two patches, but they are as yet rather rough. They attempt to implement the following on edit_domain: config option for 'check_config on page load' button for check_config features table is now 1x4, instead of 2x2 col1: feature col2: enabled? col3: configured? col4: details (if -x details-$feature.cgi) individual check_$feature_config subs in each feature-$f.pl individual details-$feature.cgi redirects The flaws are no doubt legion, but I feel I should highlight that _at least_ the following are still on my todo list: lang support: 'ui text' -> $test{'ui_text'} as appropriate feature plugins webalizer (mine is broken ?) make details-dir redirect to file manager ? (get my java working) My approach to 'configured?' is rough and ready. I started with a free-form text return rather than a specific coding, and I've yet to arrive at position on where such an interface should go. At least once I've reached for a check_$feature_config routine for a reassuring binary 'yes we can do that', even though I generally believe in 'try it and return an error if necessary'. Given the typical cost of a check_$feature_config, more could be done both in terms of checking and in terms of feedback. Also, I'm peripherally aware of html techniques that enable population of a slow rendering table after the rest of the page, but I'd need to look up the implementation, and I've no idea whether such a technique would fit in well with webmin. I would have put the 'check' button at the top or bottom of the column, if I could easily have worked out how :) With the 'details' links, I have chosen the easy route with individual cgi's and treating the relationship between site and feature as essentially one-to-one (with the exception of mail which was already there, maybe I've overlooked others ?). Nowhere is the latter hack more painfully obvious to me than in details-logrotate. Martin, I really have tried to avoid <td></td> and use <td> </td> :) Anyway, enough waffle from me. Please see attached code, feel free to tell me what you think! Regards, Paddy -- Perl 6 will give you the big knob. -- Larry Wall |

Adding New Languages to Webmin 2. Using wbmtranslator 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? 4. Special Hint ###################################################################### 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... so that they can include it in the main Webmin distribution. The best way to tar up everything is with the command : tar czf /tmp/translation.tar.gz \ */lang/sw lang/sw */module.info \ */config.info.sw */help/*.sw.html ###################################################################### 2. Using wbmtranslator This is a module by Emmanuel Saracco which can be downloaded here: http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ It consists of an easy to use webinterface in order to update current translations or setup new languages. Last not least it enables you to officially send in translations to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... ###################################################################### 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? Yes (by Jamie Cameron) There is a way to do this - create a lang/ subdirectory under your theme with the usual en, de and other files. Then in your theme CGIs or .pl, use code like : %mytext = &load_language("my-theme-directory"); print "<b>$mytext{'something'}</b> <p>\n"; ###################################################################### 4. Special hint /usr/libexec/webmin/lang/en <original> feedback_desc2=This feedback will be sent to the developer of Webmin, not your system administrator, ISP or hosting company. Please write your feedback in english, even if you are currently running Webmin in another language. </original> You should add the following (after translating it into your language). <br>If you have a question or a request on the <u>Arabic Transalation</u>, please send a feedback <u>only</u> to <u>tra...@we...</u>. Complete line: feedback_desc2=This feedback will be sent to the developer of Webmin, not your system administrator, ISP or hosting company. A new feature in webmin 1.170 is to send mail to users near their quota http://webmin.com/changes-1.170.html I think displaying a column with the % quota used is usefull, and displaying them in red if they're above some limit (ex 70%) For webmin 1.160, I choosed hard quota % and wrote patches for it. See my previous mail [1] on web...@li... I didnt receive any response, but I didnt choose right list. So I rewrote patches (diff -u) for webmin 1.170, in attachment. What do you think about it? Could this be added in next webmin release? If not, what should be improved? ---- Christophe [1] Quota module idea : percentage used and threshold -- 2004-10-01 02:20 http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=5683080&forum_id=3156 |

Ok, in an attempt to fix the session_login problem of the login showing in two frames, or after relogging in, one frame not refreshing properly...I have the following: in my theme config I have "two" headinclude lines..I don't know if this is legal, but it "appears" to work: headinclude=config.css headinclude=framecheck.inc framecheck.inc has the following in it: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> passpage = document.URL if (top.location == self.location) if (! (self.location == "session_login.cgi")) if (document.URL.match("aim_")) top.location.href="/index.cgi?" + passpage </script> index.cgi in the theme contains the following: #!/usr/bin/perl ########################################################################### # # Autors: Deepen V. Dhulla <de...@de...> # Peter N. Hrebicek <pe...@ch...> # ############################################################################ require './web-lib.pl'; &init_config(); $hostname = &get_system_hostname(); $ver = &get_webmin_version(); if ($gconfig{'real_os_type'}) { $ostr = "$gconfig{'real_os_type'} $gconfig{'real_os_version'}"; } else { $ostr = "$gconfig{'os_type'} $gconfig{'os_version'}"; } &PrintHeader(); print <<"EOF"; <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Webmin</title> </head> <!-- <frameset border="0" cols="295, *" frameborder="0"> <frame name="nav" target="main" src="navigate.cgi"> <frame name="content" src="home.cgi"> </frameset> --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> origURL = parent.document.URL contentURL = origURL.substring(origURL.indexOf('?')+1, origURL.length) document.write('<frameset border="0" cols=295, *" frameborder="0"><frame src="na vigate.cgi" name="nav" target="main" ><frame src=\"' + contentURL + '\" name="content"><\/fr ameset>') </script> </html> EOF I have modified session.cgi by inserting the following line at line 32: print "<script>\nif (window != window.top) {\n window.top.location = window.location;\n }\n</script>\n"; What it does: session_login.cgi is now always appropriately loaded as top window. Bugs: Ocassionaly the "main" frame becomes the top window. When the session expires, and you click on something, I can here the reload "click" happening for about 10 seconds and can see the URL being modified rapidly for the entire time. Eventually you get to the session_login screen. Any ideas on how to fix this? (I had assumed that sometimes for some reason, the call to &header is not including the javascript..but upon html code inspection it is called, but apparently ignored.) I use CSS extensively in two of them, as well. I found using CSS easier than doing it all in HTML. It is true that to really get complete control over the appearence of Webmin, you must modify some of the perl routines, which is ugly...but not difficult. Have you read the section of the developer page about making themes? I believe it is pretty well documented. There are a few "secrets" that get discussed occasionally, or you have to query the list about, but generally all you need to know is here: http://www.webmin.com/modules.html#theme Good luck! |

But be aware: Webmin is designed as an administrative interface to unixoid systems and from my translations works I know that there are folks outside who are using browsers which do not support css (i.e. text-only browsers like links or lynx) in anyway as it is not necessary for administrative things. On the other hand you must think about cross-plattform-css-compability as Konqueror may shows css in another way as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, Firefox, AOL-Browser ... I will not take you down on this, just my two cents. bis dahin - kind regards Martin Mewes -- ###################################################################### http://www.webmin.com/ | Webbased Administration Tool for http://webmin.mamemu.de/| Unixoid Systems :-) Webmin Translation Team ###################################################################### |

The initial Login to Webmin is not framed, but if your session times out after frames are drawn, the frames are left, and duplicate login prompts are in each frame. This generates after login, frames that are "hidden" unless one refreshes the WHOLE page. Is there a way to force the login page to remove the frames when it draws the login screen?
