I don't pretend to see into the value of having multiple <index,cipher,pass> lines, as I am not yet familiar with hearbeat, but the note in the sample authkeys file reads: # You normally only have one authentication method-id listed in this file # # Put more than one to make a smooth transition when changing auth # methods and/or keys. I also found this message: http://lists.community.tummy.com/pipermail/linux-ha-dev/1999-October/000219.html which includes the following: The purpose of allowing several keys in the authkeys file is to make it possible to smoothly switch to a new key in a continuously running system. Assume you initially are authenticating on key 1: You distribute out a new authkeys file to each machine which has key 1 and a new key 2 both in it. The auth statement at the top still says auth 1. Go to next step when this one is done on all nodes. You can now distribute a new authkeys file which has the same keys in it, but says "auth 2" at the top. Go to next step when this one is done on all nodes. Distribute a new authkeys file which has only key 2 in it. The first key is now repudiated, and is no longer valid. None of this disrupts the cluster at all. Modify the authkeys file, and send heartbeat a SIGHUP. New authkeys are in now in effect. This makes sense to me, but a gui rendering of this mechanism could offer a "change authkeys" that abstracts away the underlying mechanism. Perhaps Webmin already does this bit, I didn't look yet. I imagine the diehard admin might still be able find uses for access to the undelying guts, but then the diehard admin knows where to find ed. The current interface is supposed to handle that auth.cf format .. Basically, it will
allow you to select one of the three modes, and comment out the ones that are not being
used. Do you see any problem with this?

I'm just looking at the heartbeat module in webmin 1.80.
The rest of the box is debian sarge with heartbeat_1.2.3-5.
I'm new to heartbeat, and have no idea yet whether the
authkeys file format has changed.
The authkeys interface doesn't seem to map to the underlying
config file. As I read it the format is something like:
auth <indexi-to-use>
<index> <cipher> <pass>
<index> <cipher> <pass>
<index> <cipher> <pass>
such that <index-to-use> specifies which line to actually use.
examples from the documentation include:
auth 1
1 crc
2 sha1 HI!

and

feature.
It may be a little while before I get around to implementing support for
this (assuming that I've read this rightly and that such would be welcome),
and I certainly wouldn't be upset if anyone beat me to it :)

Hi Fred, Those all sound like good features to me, and I would be glad to accept a patch to implement them. Hello, I'm wondering if it could be useful (and possible) to add in the Mount module some checks to help the sysadmin, when mounting and unmountiong an NFS filesystem. This checks would display a warning to the user, to let him choose either to continue or modify his choices. I was thinking to add the following checks: - when mounting a filesystem, detect if the local directory is not empty or is a previous mount. This, to prevent the local directory from being masked. - when unmounting a filesystem, display a list of the local users who are using this filesystem - sort /etc/fstab, so parent directories are mounted before subdirectories (to prevent conflicts) - when mounting a filesystem, detect if the directory on the remote host is not already a filesystem mounted from another host (but how is it possible?) This could be very useful in big networks to prevent mounting mounts. What do you think? Fred. |

If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... so that they can include it in the main Webmin distribution. Hi - i'm considering moving my Virtualmin domains from a RHEL 3.0 server to a Trustix OS server has anybody had any experiance of this was it good or bad the servers only run Webmin + Virtualmin for websites, MySQL, php etc 2 servers in different data centres are used in a failover set-up what do you think of Trustix i'm thinking of switching because i understand that i can get Trustix to ONLY load the bits i need to run these types of websites (i.e. its's not bloated by other server settings that i don't need running) Regards Martyn |

The testphase in 2004 was well and after little problems on the=20 01/01/2005 mailinglists are now archived properly. Second goal of the project will be to develop some (possibly perl-based)=20 software which can be handled via eMail to get certain lost messages=20 out of the archives attached to an eMail in a (zip||tar.gz||tar.bz2) to=20 import them to your $mail_client. There is a mailing-list [3] and an=20 empty CVS already. More info on this can be obtained by subscribing to=20 the list. Back to point one. I am searching for complete editions of the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 of=20 the following mailing-lists [4], mbox is prefeered (so no conversion is=20 needed), but there is a conversion-script for maildir available as=20 well. Some of the lists are complete already, but you know: Better=20 check twice :-) Another important point is to have the eMail-Headers complete, so we can=20 check them to find something unique (important for SuSE-Lists) in them. Actually, the real reason for using some old Perl constructs is lazyness rather than compatability :-) However, I do plan to undertake a major UI and code clean-up early next year, and as part of that all 'local' variables will be replaced with 'my' ... except in those few cases where 'local' is actually the right thing to do. I would happily access a patch or series of patches that does some of this conversion.. I'd suggest doing them one module at a time though .. - Jamie |

Jamie, I believe you said once that the reason for the style of perl coding in webmin is because of the wide range of platforms it has to support not all of which might have an uptodate version of perl. However we noticed that web-lib.pl includes at least one "my" variable -- a perl 5 feature. Was that an oversight or are you abandoning the idea of supporting really old perl versions? If the latter, would you be willing to accept a patch to use strict everywhere and my variables? Hi all, today I would like to launch the 2005 QoS (Quality of Service)-Challenge for Webmin-Translations. Webmin is constantly growing but translations most of the times are far behind this development. If you look at http://webmin.mamemu.de/lang.html you can have a look at the languages which are currently supported by Webmin, but if you look at the source with wbmtranslator you see, that sometimes there are only a few strings translated though. This QoS-Challenge should lift Webmin, Usermin and Virtualmin to the next stage at least for the languages German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese to be the most completed languages supported by Webmin. In first instance it will be necessary to create work groups for these languages. So everyone who wants to take part please send a message to me (in english) and tell me his/hers language. After some while I will setup and distribute a webmin-trans-XX-list-MailingList so that the translators can workout their stuff as a group. Each team should have a speaker who is at least subscribed to the main MailingList webmin-trans-list to discuss general stuff. The goal for this QoS is to have the complete Webmin, Usermin and Virtualmin to be translated into the above written languages. If other teams (languages) are coming up, no problem :-) In order to have teams teamed up before starting this I think it would be a good point to start with this after the next stable release of Webmin and Usermin. Any hints and comments are welcomed .... please distribute this CfQ to your friends (do not spam!) on other mailinglists, user groups and get them to web...@ma... I am not getting session_login errors, ie, if the wrong password was
entered...I'm sure part of it is because I've modified the starting code to
look like this, which allows the login form to become the top window, and
with other mods to my theme, the frames come back...is there a way to be
sure the login-failed info get's passed on?
