To the Webmin Cummunity. Sorry that My Virtualmin plug-ins have not been available lately. But I have got off my butt and put them back on my download page again. My Webmin and Virtualmin plug-ins are currently available. Once again I am sorry about keeping them down for so long. I will also have other Perl scripts that might appease some of you. ------------------------------------------ Vernon J. Adding New Languages to Webmin 2. Using wbmtranslator 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? 4. Special Hint ###################################################################### 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... so that they can include it in the main Webmin distribution. The best way to tar up everything is with the command : tar czf /tmp/translation.tar.gz \ */lang/sw lang/sw */module.info \ */config.info.sw */help/*.sw.html ###################################################################### 2. Using wbmtranslator This is a module by Emmanuel Saracco which can be downloaded here: http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ It consists of an easy to use webinterface in order to update current translations or setup new languages. Last not least it enables you to officially send in translations to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... ###################################################################### 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? Yes (by Jamie Cameron) There is a way to do this - create a lang/ subdirectory under your theme with the usual en, de and other files. Then in your theme CGIs or .pl, use code like : %mytext = &load_language("my-theme-directory"); print "<b>$mytext{'something'}</b> <p>\n"; ###################################################################### 4. Special hint /usr/libexec/webmin/lang/en <original> feedback_desc2=This feedback will be sent to the developer of Webmin, not your system administrator, ISP or hosting company. Please write your feedback in english, even if you are currently running Webmin in another language. </original> You should add the following (after translating it into your language). <br>If you have a question or a request on the <u>Arabic Transalation</u>, please send a feedback <u>only</u> to <u>tra...@we...</u>. Am I just missing some much simpler solution? This is really a bug in Webmin. It should serve that favicon.ico file even to un-authenticated clients, just like it does already for .gif and .jpg files in order to display images on the login page correctly. I will fix this in the next release .. or you can fix it by changing line 3236 of miniserv.pl , to add .ico files to the unauthenticated regexp. - Jamie |

Hi list, I am having a problem with favicons with webmin (1.020). First the symptom : my favicon appears in the URL bar of Firefox but not beside the name when I have multiple tabs. Hmm - how odd (I thought) it does it for all other favicons. I should point out that I was putting my favicon.ico file in the base directory of the webserver (i.e. the same directory as session_login.cgi). I'd like it to be there - its the default location for favicons and for silly reasons I won't go into I'd rather not use the <link rel=3D" ... workaround to reference it in another location. Anyway - I think I've worked out why it happens. When I first go to any page I get bounced to the login page. I think at that stage Firefox is requesting /favicon.ico but that request will get a response telling it to login i.e. it seems that no document in "/" will work without a session other than session_login.cgi So when I'm logged in subsequent requests to /favicon.ico will work properly (as long as I remember to add "image/x-icon ico" to mime.types) but I think Firefox still has some memory of the initial request not suceeding due to lack of session and no amount of shift-reloading will convince it otherwise. OK - so firefox is behaving a bit oddly but lots of people have it so I'd like to work around it. I tried changing (hacking) miniserv.pl to add a special case for /favicon.ico (to serve it regardless of whether I have a session) and the problem went away which seemed to confirm my suspisions. Anyway - any thoughts/advice on this? Is there any easier way to make a special case for /favicon.ico to be served regardless of whether I have a session? Would this still be an issue in later versions of webmin? Am I just missing some much simpler solution? Thanks. Colm |

Complete line: feedback_desc2=This feedback will be sent to the developer of Webmin, not your system administrator, ISP or hosting company. Please write your feedback in english, even if you are currently running Webmin in another language.<br>If you have a question or a request on the <u>Arabic Transalation</u>, please send a feedback <u>only</u> to <u>tra...@we...</u>. Your best bet would be to configured logrotate to operate on /var/webmin/miniserv.log , and to truncate them after they reach some max size, like 1MB. If you do set this up, make sure logrotate runs /etc/webmin/stop ; /etc/webmin/start after rotating the logs.. - Jamie |

Hi, Just wondering if there was any parameter to limit the max logfile size for webmin (miniser.pl) access logs. Ok .. in that case, you need to add firewall rules like : iptables -A INPUT -i ppp0 -j LOG --log-prefix "BANDWIDTH_IN:" --log-level debug iptables -A FORWARD -o ppp0 -j LOG --log-prefix "BANDWIDTH_OUT:" --log-level debug iptables -A FORWARD -i ppp0 -j LOG --log-prefix "BANDWIDTH_IN:" --log-level debug iptables -A OUTPUT -o ppp0 -j LOG --log-prefix "BANDWIDTH_OUT:" --log-level debug at the tops of the appropriate chains. In Webmin, in the Linux Firewall module, click on the Module Config link, and change the 'Directly edit firewall rules instead of save file?' option to 'Yes' , so that it looks at the active rules instead of any save file. With this done, the bandwidth module should then prompt you to set up the syslog.conf entry that it needs .. - Jamie On 14/Jul/2005 13:52 gb...@hq... wrote .. > Hi Jamie! Hi Jamie! (BTW, Thanks for your great software!) It's an iptables firewall configuration, except it's not a configuration for usage later with iptables.save and all those script. It's a firewall ruleset which is executed everytime from startup and read configuration from different files (I'm right now building a webmin module to touch config files of this firewall.). I didn't express well, what I want to know is what is the best rule configuration for the bandwidth monitor module. My intention is to send to the developer of this firewall scripts a patch to make the scripts compatible with the bandwidth monitor module and also make GPL the module to config his firewall scripts. I've noticed that AgileCo have a billing application that purports to integrate with Virtualmin. I haven't used it, but it might be what you're looking for. It isn't Open Source, but it isn't expensive either, and seems to have a pretty good sized user base and reasonable support from the developers. Might be worth a look. My opinion on Virtualmin at this point is that it shouldn't deal with billing directly--I think billing is a separate problem, and in the cases where I've seen the two tasks integrated it has left something to be desired in both tasks. There is also an Open Source billing application called FreeSide which may be of interest--perhaps you could integrate the two, or pay someone to do so. The fact is that anything that deals with money is a huge set of problems all by itself, and if the focus of Virtualmin shifts to dealing with accounting, all of the technical stuff will take a backseat. Of course, I could be wrong... But, to address your suggestions, it would be good to make sure that the Virtualmin perl API and the command line interface can do the following things easily: Email a specific account owner based on the account name (i.e. email the administrator email address rather than the Unix mailbox, just in case the user prefers notifications to be sent to a different mail address). Suspend and re-activate an account. With just these two features, any billing app that can be configured to "do something" based on the criteria you've laid out below, would be extremely easy to integrate with Virtualmin. Beyond that, one would also want the ability to have the billing app trigger domain creation with the details pulled automatically from the billing database. So the API/CLI needs the ability to create a domain from the default or another defined template. I suspect most of this can be done already without much effort...And even if it can't, I bet it will be possible in a not too distant version (a little bird told me). So, as much as I'd like for all of my software to be written by Jamie, he can't possibly stay awake enough to maintain it all. He's already got Webmin, Usermin, and Virtualmin. That's quite a lot, and I don't think we don't need him working on Moneymin(tm), too! ;-) Brian wrote: > Hello list, > > I have searched the list but found this has not been > addressed in full detail; at least recently. > > Have any of the hosting companies using Virtualmin on > this list integrated with billing software? Hello list, I have searched the list but found this has not been addressed in full detail; at least recently. Have any of the hosting companies using Virtualmin on this list integrated with billing software? This software based on webmin appears to be headed in the webmin/hoting/billing direction, but is incomplete: www.host4net.us. What is the roadmap for virtualmin? Some suggestions for starting the billing features: An account expiration/renewal/due date would be useful. Automated notices sent at configurable intervals (ie. 60,30,15,5,1 days or 30,15,3 days prior to experition and then a message notifying of account freezing) to domain owners based on a configurable email template. Automated suspension of services would be useful also. Brian __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
