Hi Webmin users, The 2.40 version of Virtualmin, a virtual hosting control panel for Webmin, is now available for download from http://www.virtualmin.com/. Virtualmin is a Webmin module designed to simplify the process of setting up virtual domains, and can manage Apache, BIND, Sendmail/Postfix, Logrotate, Webalizer, MySQL and PostgreSQL. This release contains the following major improvements : * Added support for using LDAP to store mail and domain users and groups, rather than local files. This depends on the LDAP Users and Groups module being set up properly, and the system configured to use NSS-LDAP. * When creating a virtual server, if a feature fails for some reason the rest of the server creation will still go ahead. This avoids the problem of a server being partially created and unknown to Virtualmin. * A database name can be specified when creating a server, rather than the default which is computed from the domain name. * Added form on plugins page for editing the configuration of plugins that have a config.info file. * Created several command-line scripts for enabling and disabling features and server owner limits. * Added a page for defining custom fields to be stored with each virtual server, for entering site-specific information like billing plans, customer addresses and so on. * Bandwidth graphs are now available to server owners, as well as the master administrator. * There are also bunch of other bugfixes and small improvements. Thanks to TextDrive and Omar Armas for sponsoring some of these features! As always, let me know about any bugs you find or new features that you think should go in. - Jamie |

Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.170 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added the new Bandwidth Monitoring module, for generating simple reports of network traffic by port, time and host on Linux systems. * Added the Cluster Copy module, for coping files to multiple servers either on schedule or manually. * Added the Backup Configuration Files module, for backing up and restoring config files known to Webmin. * Several improvements to the Linux firewall module, including pre- and post commands, cluster support and the ability to reset the firewall configuration. * Support for selecting specific MySQL and PostgreSQL tables to back up, and improved searching in the MySQL module. * Automatic email notification for users approaching their disk quotas. * The timezone can now be set in the System Time module on Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD. * Added support for Solaris 10 (thanks to Sun), SuSE 9.2, Mandrake 10.1, FreeBSD 5.3 and several Darwin versions. Also available is Usermin 1.100, which includes the following small changes : * Incorporated a DHTML-based HTML editor into the Read Mail module, which works far better than the previous Java-based editor. * Added support for selecting specific MySQL and PostgreSQL tables to back up. * Added an option to the Change Password for updating the user's MySQL password at the same time as the Unix password. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Hi Webmin users, The 2.30 version of Virtualmin, a virtual hosting control panel for Webmin, is now available for download from www.virtualmin.com. Virtualmin is a Webmin module designed to simplify the process of setting up virtual domains, and can manage Apache, BIND, Sendmail/Postfix, MySQL and PostgreSQL. This release contains the following major improvements : * Aliases for virtual servers can be created, to add an additional domain name to an existing server. * Support for web bandwidth monitoring has been added. Limits can be defined for each server, which when exceeded can cause an email to be sent to the owner, and/or the server disabled. * A new feature has been added - Logrotate, for periodically rotating virtual server logs. * The Qmail mail server can now be used, along with Sendmail and Postfix. Only the basic Qmail functionality is needed, not vpopmail. * All global configuration settings used when creating servers, such as Apache directives, DNS records and skeleton files are now defined in server templates. When creating a new virtual host, you can select which template to use, allowing multiple standard configurations to be defined. * A virtual server can now be created without a Unix user or without a home directory, if it is used for aliasing or DNS hosting only. * Support has been added for third-party plugins, which can define additional features available to virtual servers and mailboxes. * There are also bunch of other bugfixes and small improvements. Thanks to TextDrive, Linulex and Omar Armas for sponsoring some of these features! As always, let me know about any bugs you find or new features that you think should go in. - Jamie |

Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.160 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added the new Sarg Squid access reporting module. Thanks to Omar Armas for sponsoring its development. * Updated all core modules to no longer output <hr> lines at the top and bottom of every page. These are now generated by the selected theme, and not used by the default MSC theme. * Added support for NFSv4 to the Disk and Network Filesystems module. * In the MySQL and PostgreSQL modules, all databases can now be backed up at once, either manually or on a configured schedule. * Added the ability to delete multiple users at once to the Users and Groups module. * Added support for MD5 encryption for Webmin passwords, to avoid the 8-character effective password length limit. * The BIND module can now create and edit delegation-only zones. * Fixed a security problem that can occur at installation time only, if the /tmp/.webmin directory has already been created by a malicious user. * When PAM is used for Unix authentication, expired passwords are now detected and the user is prompted to select a new password (if this feature is enabled in the Webmin Configuration module). * A bunch of other small changes and bug fixes. Also available is Usermin 1.090, which includes the following changes : * Added support for sending mail via an SMTP server that uses authentication to the Read Mail module. * Added a check to prevent multiple clicks on the Delete button to the Read Mail module, which could cause the wrong messages to be removed. * When PAM is used for authentication, expired passwords are now detected and the user is prompted to select a new password (if this feature is enabled in the Usermin Configuration module). * Fixed a security problem that can occur at installation time only, if the /tmp/.webmin directory has already been created by a malicious user. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Hi Webmin users, The 2.10 version of Virtualmin, a virtual hosting control panel for Webmin, is now available for download from www.virtualmin.com. Virtualmin is a Webmin module designed to simplify the process of setting up virtual domains, and can manage Apache, BIND, Sendmail/Postfix, MySQL and PostgreSQL. This release contains the following major improvements : * A virtual server Unix user can now own multiple domains, and can be given the ability to create domains himself up to some limit. All domains are stored under the user's home directory, and share the same disk quota. However, each can have its own website, DNS domain, databases and so on. Thanks to TextDrive for sponsoring this feature. * A proper SSL certificate can be more easily generated for a virtual server using the Manage SSL Certificate button on the server editing page. A CSR can be generated for sending to a certificate authority, and the retured signed certificate can be installed. * A range to allocate IP addresses from can be defined on the Module Config page, from which an address will be automatically chosen when creating a virtual server with its own non-shared IP. * The domain name, Unix user and home directory of a virtual server can be changed using the new Change Domain Name page. * When restoring a backup, if the restored server does not exist, it will be created with all the original features. As always, let me know about any bugs you find or new features that you think should go in. - Jamie |

Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.150 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added the BSD Firewall module, for configuring IPFW on FreeBSD and OSX systems. Thanks to More og Romsdal fylke and Olav Berge for sponsoring this module. * Added the Frox FTP Proxy module, for setting up a transparent FTP caching proxy. Thanks to Joe Cooper for sponsoring this one. * Added support for doing multi-tape backups to the Filesystem Backup module, including automatic notification via email when a tape needs to be changed. Also adding support for using tar to backup when no suitable dump command is available. Thanks to Martin Mewes for sponsoring these features. * Modified the Linux RAID module to work with the MDADM commands as well as the standard inux RAID tools. The user interface remains the same, but the underlying operations are performed differently. * Removed mail reading support from the Sendmail, Postfix and Qmail modules, as these features have now been consolidated into the Read User Mail module. * A bunch of other small changes and bug fixes. Also available is Usermin 1.080, which includes only one change : * Improved the searching facilities of the SpamAssassin module, so that you can search by spam score or full body contents. Finally, there is a new 2.00 version of Virtualmin out as well, which includes the following changes : * Domains with their own IP addresses can make use of a new feature - a ProFTPd virtual server. This allows each server to have it's own anonymous FTP directory, located by default at ~/ftp. * The backup and restore feature can now use SSH to transfer files to another server, as well as FTP. * Added module configuration options to prevent domain owners from being given access to feature-related modules like Apache Webserver, BIND DNS Server and so on. * Several improvements to the mail alias support, including improved clash checking and support for domain to domain catchall forwarding. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.140 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following major changes : * Added the Read User Mail module, which separates the mail reading functionality from the Sendmail, Qmail and Postfix mail server modules, and provides additional functionality. * Added the Cluster Change Passwords module, for updating Unix passwords on multiple systems at once. * Improved the BIND module to allow editing of user-defined record types. * Added an option to the Perl Modules module to have dependencies automatically downloaded and installed from CPAN. * Added suport for SMB filesystems on FreeBSD and CIFS on Linux to the Disk and Network Filesystems module. * The File Manager module can now download an entire directory as a ZIP, or tar.gz archive, and extract multiple files from an uploaded archive. Anyone who is using the mail reading feature of the Sendmail module should switch over to the new Read User Mail module instead, as the ability to read mail will be taken out of the Sendmail module in the next release. Also available is Usermin 1.070, which includes the following changes: * Adding a configuration option to the Custom Commands module for limiting which commands are visible to which Unix users and groups. * The SpamAssassin Mail Filter module now supports searching of the suspected Spam folder. * The Fetchmail module can now set up a Cron job to regularly download email, instead of running the Fetchmail daemon. * As with Webmin, the File Manager module can upload and download ZIP and tar.gz archives. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Hi Webmin users, For those who are into virtual hosting, the 1.80 version of Virtualmin is now available for download from www.virtualmin.com. Virtualmin is a Webmin module designed to simplify the process of setting up virtual domains, and can manage Apache, BIND, Sendmail/Postfix, MySQL and PostgreSQL. This release contains the following improvements : * A new SSL feature is available for virtual servers, which when enabled triggers the creation of a separate Apache virtual host on port 443. This feature is disabled by default, and must be enabled on the Module Config page. * The options that determine in a server gets a private IP address or not have been simplified, and it is possible to add a private IP to a server after creation. * The system's configuration is only checked when a change to the Module Config page is made, instead of each time the Virtualmin module is entered. This speeds up the display of the main page, and allows the checking to be more comprehensive. * A confirmation page is now shown when turning off a feature for a virtual server. * Quotas are displayed in kilobytes instead of blocks, where possible. * Substantial code clean-ups, including moving all features into their own separate files, and putting duplicated code into common functions. * The ability to set mailbox quotas or enable FTP can be turned off for virtual server owners. * Various other minor enhancements and bug fixes. As always, let me know about any bugs you find or new features that you think should go in. - Jamie |

Hi Webmin users, For those who are into virtual hosting, the 1.7 version of Virtualmin is now available for download from www.virtualmin.com. Virtualmin is a Webmin module designed to simplify the process of setting up virtual domains, and can manage Apache, BIND, Sendmail/Postfix, MySQL and PostgreSQL. This release contains the following improvements : * Hard and/or soft quotas can now be set for virtual servers and email users, depending on the module's configuration. * If group quotas are enabled for the /home filesystem, they will be set to match the virtual server quotas. Otherwise the server owner and mailbox users have separate quotas, meaning that no real limit can be placed on the disk space used by a server. * A virtual server or email user can be given an unlimited quota. Any users created before quotas are enabled will initially be unlimited until changed. * The number of mailboxes in a domain can be limited (thanks to Steve Yates for this patch). * When the BIND DNS Server module has been configured to create a slave zone on another server matching a new master zone, Virtualmin will do the same thing for new domains. As always, let me know about any bugs you find or new features that you think should go in. - Jamie |

Webmin version 1.080 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added the new ADSL Client module for configuring RP-PPPoE. Thanks to Joe Cooper for sponsoring its development * Added the new Upload and Download module for uploading multiple files to a directory, or downloading multiple URLs immediately or in the background * Included improved Chinese translation updates, contributed by Stephanie Li of ThizLinux * Added support for Redhat 9, SuSE 8.2, FreeBSD 4.8 and Slackware 9.0 * Improved the Network Configuration module to support Redhat-style per-interface gateway specifications, and to allow the applying of the current configuration * Added support for external ACL types in the Squid module * Added an option on the Webmin Modules page for easily selecting and installing a standard module from www.webmin.com. This is most useful if you have installed the new minimal version of Webmin, which comes with only a few modules * All modules that can download URLs (such as Software Packages and Perl Modules) now support https:// URLs * Numerous other small bug fixes and improvements For those people who just want to use a few Webmin modules, a minimal version is also available from http://www.webmin.com/download.html . This contains only the core programs and modules, and so comes in a much smaller tar.gz file. Other modules can be added using the new standard module installation feature mentioned above. Also available is Usermin 1.010, which includes the following changes: * Added support for encrypting files for multiple recipients in the GnuPG module, and sending encrypted email to multiple people in the Read Mail module * For users who can select their From: address in the Read Mail module, added address book support to make defining and selection of common addresses easier * Added a feature to the Procmail module for manually editing the config file * Support for the same new operating systems as Webmin As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Due to a remotely exploitable security hole being discovered that effects all previous Webmin releases, version 1.070 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This problem was reported by Cintia M. Imanishi, but fortunately there have been no known malicious exploits of it yet. However, all users should upgrade to 1.070 as soon as possible. Along with the security fix, this release also includes the following changes : * Added find and replace and goto line support to the File Manager module's editor * Init scripts created by Webmin on Linux now start in runlevels 2, 3 and 5, instead of just the current runlevel * Fixed a bug that caused problems when logging in on OSX, and stopped Java applets from working under IE * Added an ACL option in the Sendmail module to control which domains can be seen in the mail queue * Added a mode in the Webmin Servers Index to prompt for a logging when connecting to a server Also available is Usermin 1.000 which fixes the exact same security hole. It includes the same File Manager features, as well as support for IMAP folders and an IMAP inbox in the Read Mail module. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Webmin version 1.060 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : * Added a new module for configuring Shorewall (the Shoreline Firewall) * Updated the PostgreSQL module to support configuration file format changes in version 7.3 * Updated the MySQL module to new permissions in version 4 * Updated the Postfix module to allow viewing and deletion of messages in the mail queue * Added backup and restore functions to the PostgreSQL module, for versions 7.2 and above * Added a configuration option to the Linux Firewall for editing rules directly, instead of using a save file * Numerous other small bug fixes and improvements If you are running Redhat Linux 8.0 and want to use the Webmin Upgrade feature to install this new version, turn off the 'Check GnuPG signature on package?' option or RPM will report that the package signer is unknown. Or you can import my key first with the command rpm --import http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc This problem happens because the version of RPM included with Redhat 8.0 stores keys for verification of RPMs differently to older releases. Also available is Usermin 0.990, which includes a few small improvements to the Read Mail module, such as better linking of URLs in email and the ability to logout of a POP3 server. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Webmin version 1.050 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release just adds a few small features and fixes a few bugs, such as : * Added width and height tags to all images in the MSC theme, so that it appears better in Mozilla and Netscape * Updated the CD Burner module to support copying a CD with only a single drive * Added support for specifying an existing Webalizer config file for use when processing a logfile * Added module access control options for the Usermin module * Added SRV record type support to the BIND module * Fixed the GRUB module to correctly identify BIOS drive numbers from Linux device files * The Webmin RPM is now PGP signed, and a signature is available for the tar.gz version. See the download page for details Don't use Webmin 1.040, because it has a bug that can cause a Javascript error to appear on every page! Also available is Usermin 0.980, which includes the same theme fix, support for DBM indexes in the Read Mail module and a few other small improvements. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Webmin version 1.020 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. New features in this version include : * Webmin now generates an SSL key at install time, instead of using a built-in key. Anyone using it in SSL mode must generate their own key, as the built-in one is insecure because everyone has access to it! This can be done within Webmin on the SSL Encryption page of the Webmin Configuration module * The Webmin RPM uses SSL mode by default if you have openssl and Net::SSLeay installed * Fixed bugs that could cause the miniserv.pl process to use up all available CPU time * Added the OpenSLP Server module, which was previously separate * Ported Webmin to Redhat 8.0 and SuSE 8.1 If you have been running Webmin in SSL mode, you *must* generate a new SSL key that is unique to your system. I only recently found out that anyone with a copy of your SSL key file can decrypt all traffic. Because almost everyone using Webmin uses the same included key file, their SSL traffic is vulnerable to snooping! Fortunately, this version makes it easy to generate your own key using the SSL Encryption page of the Webmin Configuration module. Also available is Usermin 0.960, which includes the same SSL key fix, a new Mount Filesystems module, support for non-readable /home directory in the file manager, and several other small fixes. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |
