Webmin version 1.000 released

The long-awaited webmin version 1.000 is now available for download
from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. New features in
this version include :

  * Added the Linux Firewall module for configuring iptables
  * Renamed the old PPP Usernames and Passwords module to PPP Dialin Server
    and added support for configuring mgetty and setting PPP options
  * Added the Voicemail Server module for configuring vgetty
  * Improved Irix support for NFS, Disks and Filesystems, Quotas and File Manager
  * Added ports to Redhat 7.4 and UnitedLinux 1.0
  * Added support for JFS filesystems
  * Lots of other minor bugfixes and features

Also available is Usermin 0.950, which includes POP3 and MH folder and inbox
support to the Read Mail module, and the ability to restrict access to modules
by user or group.

Usermin version 0.940 released

Webmin version 0.940 is now available for download from
http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. New features in
this version include :

  - Added support for folders ~/mail or any external file to the Read Mail module,
    as well as several other small improvements to the module.
  - Added a Custom Commands module, which can run selected commands from Webmin.
  - Added a System Documentation module, which is almost identical to the one in Webmin.
  - Fixed various small bugs, including an annoying one in the Mail Forwarding module
    that prepended the user's home directory to email addresses!

Webmin version 0.990 is now available for download from

this version include :

  * Added the Cluster Webmin Servers module for managing modules and
    users across multiple servers
  * Added the Procmail Mail Filter module for editing the global procmail
    config file
  * Added support for Gentoo Linux
  * Anonymous access can now be granted to certain modules
  * Better support for driver-specific options when using CUPS for printing,
    and sped up the listing of printer drivers
  * The Configuration Engine module can now use the same configuration across
    a Webmin cluster

Also available is Usermin 0.930, which included new Change Details (chfn/chsh)
and Apache Options Files (.htaccess) modules.

This can happen in webmin 0.980 if your system's hostname has no valid IP
address associated with it in /etc/hosts or the DNS. The simplest fix is to
edit /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf and remove the syslog=1 line, then start
webmin with /etc/webmin/start

Upgrade ?

I have tried to upgrade to the latest Webmin v.980   =20
But it Crashes when it tries to restart.

RedHat 7.3

It shows an error:
 in resolving Hostname in miniserv.pl line 169

Any ideas would help! If  needed I will do the upgrade for the exact =
error message!

Webmin version 0.980 released

Webmin version 0.980 is now available for download from

this version include :

  * Added the Configuration Engine module for managing CFengine
  * Added the CVS Server module
  * Labelled XFS filesystems are now supported in all relevant modules
  * Updated the list of printers supported by each Ghostscript driver to
    include many new models
  * Copied links that appear at the bottom of tables (like Add user) to
    the top as well
  * Added OSX support for several modules, including Users and Groups
  * Changed the way installed Perl modules are detected

Also available is Usermin 0.920, which included new MySQL and Procmail
modules.

Webmin version 0.960 released

Webmin version 0.970 is now available for download from

this version include :

 - Fixed a serious security hole that allows a remote attacker
   to login to Webmin as any user!

 - Added new Security Sentries module for configuring portsentry,
   hostsentry and logcheck

 - Added support for editing EXT2/3 file attributes to the File Manager

 - The Cluster Software Packages module can now transfer large
   packages much faster to remote servers also running Webmin 0.970

 - The Network Configuration module now supports SuSE 8.0

Because of the serious security hole fixed by this release of Webmin,
all users are suggested to upgrade as soon as possible. Thanks for
Keigo Yamazaki of LAC Computer Security Laboratory for discovering
this problem.

Also available is Usermin 0.910, which fixes the same problem.
People running Usermin should definately upgrade to this new
release as well.

   LVM on Linux

 - Updated the Apache Webserver module to support Apache 2.0

 - Improved the speed of foreign calls between modules by removing
   unnecessary directory changes on each function call

 - Sped up the Partitions on Local Disks module

 - Added the ability to install and remove Usermin modules and themes,
   and control which users are allowed to login to Usermin

 - Added blanking support to the CD Burner module

 - Many other small feature enhancements

The changes to the way foreign function calls work may break some
third-party modules that use acl_security.pl, log_parser.pl or
useradmin_update.pl scripts. Any script that contains code like :

	require './module-lib.pl';

must be replaced with

	require 'module-lib.pl';

 - Added a feature to the Sendmail Configuration module for editing
   the M4 file from when sendmail.cf is build, so that new features can
   be enabled

 - Added AIX support to the Software Packages module

This is mainly a bugfix release, to fix several problems caused by
passing the LANG enviroment variable through to programs run by
Webmin, which was done in 0.93.

 - Added new SSL Tunnels (stunnel) module
 - Fixed a security problem related to viewing untrusted HTML in webmin
 - Fixed another security problem relating to permissions on /var/webmin
   when installing from an RPM
 - Added POSIX ACL support to the file manager for UFS on Solaris and XFS
   on Linux filesystems

The untrusted HTML security problem is a nasty one, as it could allow
an attacker to capture your webmin session key if you view any HTML
from within webmin that comes from an untrusted source. For this reason,
I would recommend that everyone upgrade immediately.

Security problem with System Documentation module

Hi Webmin users,

I've just found out about a security problem with the System Documentation
(man) module that allows any user who has access to it to run commands as root.
Anyone who has granted access to this module to untrusted users should install
the update from  http://www.webmin.com/webmin/updates.html  in order to
fix the problem.
