After installing macOS 27 the Vice won't start correctly. You can see the UI, but no C64 screen, just a black screen.
I will send a screenshot later (something with fonts?)
All of a sudden, it's working again. I have no idea why. I restarted my Mac at some point today, but it didn't help—yet now it's working again.
For whatever reason… It's like magic!
I can confirm that on Windows 7, with sound emulation enabled, setting the CPU to 10% causes the emulator to crash. When sound emulation is disabled, the crash does not occur.
My Windows 10 machine is a remote desktop without an audio device, so I have no way to test it there at the moment.

I decided to experiment because it kept bothering me.
As soon as I turn on my Bluetooth headphones, VICE freezes. When I turn them off again, VICE starts working again.
So is this more of a bug in macOS?
macOS - Golden Gate 27.0

could be the rendering just doesnt work anymore. Apple loves to break things randomly :)
(its not really 3.9 that you are using, i hope?)
Yes, I'm using 3.9

You should probably update to 3.10 anyway :)
3.10 - Updated and the fun returns...
I cleared verything... unstall the homebrew stuff... Installed the 3.10 DMG
Still the problem shows up...
Here the debug output

Something I discovered is: If you activate the WARP, the emulation will rin (in warp). If you turn off the warp arain, the emulation will stop.
i suspect sound device related - can you try with the built in mac sound device? and also start with -default?

I can reproduce it on Linux too... i think it is residfp that is to blame (damn thing doesnt return how much output it produced, like resid did)
set to regular resid and it should work (please confirm)
Changing 'residfp' to 'resid' helped. (win7)
And unfortunately it is not the buffer problem we have seen before - at least it requires a different fix, i guess
I'd say we just disable sound when speed is less than 50% or so, it makes no sense anyway
