As of right now, VeraCrypt works fine to encrypt a system volume with it. But as soon as you fully encrypt additional partitions, there are incompatibilities.

  1. In the Metro style Settings app, under "System" there is a settings page "Storage". This is important for installing/moving Windows 10 store apps to a different drive than a system drive. Here only the system volume C: shows up, but the system favorite volumes mounted at the start do not. They also do not appear here if mounted as a removable medium instead; yet when I plug in a USB hard disk, it does show up here.

  2. This problem is not limited to Metro style apps. As of the current anniversary update 1607, the Windows "File History" feature also no longer detects VeraCrypt volumes as valid targets. In this case, this even includes the system volume itself. Prior to the 1607 update this was in fact working for me (I did not reinstall VeraCrypt after the update).

My understanding always was that system favorite volumes in particular should behave just like fixed hard disks of a computer. But apparently the way in which VeraCrypt mounts them makes them invisible for different intrinsic parts of Windows 10. Even when they get mounted as removable disks, Windows 10 will not see them as such and behave accordingly.

For full support, and to make VeraCrypt as compatible to Windows 10 as, say, Bitlocker volumes, this should both be fixed.

This seems to be fixed when I upgraded from 1.15 to 1.17 - so you can disregard this report for now...

Seems related to this, and thus not fixed yet?
