Hi,

I just started using VeraCrypt and I've used TrueCrypt before. I am using VeraCrypt 1.13 on Windows 8.1, system on an MBR drive.

I tried to encrypt one partition of my internal non-system WD drive (GPT). I paused the encryption and put the computer on hibernation. When I tried to restart my PC, it didn't even go to BIOS. I assumed a malfunction in the drive. It didn't work in any other SATA port or with different power cable. But when I tested the drive in a USB case, it works fine. I tried to resume the encryption but it gives an error "The parameter is incorrect." and that VeraCrypt couldn't find a valid volume. Disk's other partition works well. The partially encrypted disk shows as RAW in Windows Disk Management. There is also a 128 Mb partition shown in VeraCrypt list.

I am 95% sure that the password is correct. Is it necessary to also press the "Defer" button after the "Pause" button is pressed? I didn't use the Defer button, but left the window open when entering hibernation. Is it possible that the encryption would have caused something to the GPT and BIOS freaks about this even though it isn't a system drive? BIOS and Windows will start accordingly when the drive isn't plugged in so there shouldn't be anything necessary boot information.

I've tried mounting the drive with and without backup headers and system automount on. Restoring volume header won't work but gives me another error "The parameter is incorrect. Source: RestoreVolumeHeader: 9600"

Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

I don't see how encrypting a non-system partition could affect the BIOS if the motherboard or make the drive unrecognisable by Windows.
Are you using system encryption and the system partition is on the same drive?
Maybe your Windows or your motherboard was storing some information on this partition and it is trying to read it.

Is it possible to share a screenshot of your disk partitions layout? I don't understand the point about the 128 MB partition. Did it exist before and it suddenly appeared?

As for the parameter incorrect error, the details in the message indicate that it occures when VeraCrypt tries to access the partition in order to read the header. This error is returned to us by Windows.
The locate of the error indicate that you selected the partition in question manually before the error occurs. As such I don't see what VeraCrypt can do to prevent this error.

Anyway, there seem to be some kind of issue with the access to your drive/partition. Encryption alone can't explain such problems. Some other details or information are missing to fully evaluate your situation because a generic Windows PC with generic motherboard and generic hard drive doesn't exhibit such issue after hibernation.

    Hi,
I installed Veracrypt in my Dell inspiron i5processor laptop, but it didnt help me because of incompatibility with my composition as per my IT guy in BU. I tried to decrypt the device and had to pause in between and put my laptop to hibernation. When I tried to resume, my laptop doesnt respond. It tries to repair but cant repair. Doesnt allow me to reset the laptop too. Need help. Did you find any resolve for this

I guess if you press Defer button it kills your file system to RAW and you can't do anything with your drive. Did I get it right developers? Because this is exactly what happened to my laptop.
Absolutely terrible software! I encourage everyone to leave a negative review for this virus!
