As many newer laptops lack an HDD activity light, I use Windows software (which relies on perfmon) to get back this functionality. It works great on unencrypted volumes, as well as an encrypted system volume (i.e. C). However, on a system where i.e. the system is installed on C and the data volume is D, these sensors seem to always report "no activity" for volume D.
I've tried VeraCrypt's "Allow Windows Disk Defragmenter to defragment non-system partiton/drive" and "Enable extended disk control codes support," but the behavior is the same.
Is there a way to get this to work, so it's not a choice between losing disk encryption, or losing HDD activity indicator for the D partition?
