    Enigma2Illusion - 2019-03-08

I tried testing without using Favorites by manually selecting the partition. Same error results listed below.
I tried testing without using Favorites and Secure Desktop. Same error results listed below.

Windows Error 1: You need to format the disk in drive H: before you can use it.
    Format/Cancel.
I click Cancel button which gives me the following error window.

Windows Error 2: H:\ is not accessible.
The volume does not contain a recognized file system.
Please make sure that all required file system drives are located and that the volume is not corrupted.

Disabled RAM encryption, rebooted, mounted using Favorites and Secure Desktop. Performed chkdsk via the VeraCrypt GUI.

    No errors found.

I am out of ideas what to test in order to discover the problem.

    Enigma2Illusion - 2019-03-08

    VeraCrypt Performance/Driver Configuration

The only two enabled settings when I encounter the problem are:
Enable extended disk control codes support
Activate encryption of keys and passwords stored in RAM

Next test I am going to disable extended disk control codes, reboot, mount.

Disabled in the Performance/Driver Configuration the setting "extended disk control codes support" leaving only the encrypt RAM enabled.

    Rebooted system.

    Mounted.

Same errors as stated before when I try accessing mounted volumes.

With both of the following options enabled in the Performance/Driver Configuration and rebooted PC:

    • Enable extended disk control codes support
    • Activate encryption of keys and passwords stored in RAM

    .
    Successful access to mounted drive

    • Mount outer volume without protecting hidden volume: Both read-only and normal.
    • Mount hidden volume. Both read-only and hidden.

    .
    Failure to access mounted drive

    • Mount outer volume while protecting hidden volume.

Thank you Enigma2Illusion for all your tests, this was very helpful.

I have fixed the issue which happened only when mounting with hidden volume protection. I have published 1.24-Beta5 with the fix. Hopefully this will be the last issue with RAM encryption feature.

Converning the favorites mounting issue, Can you please give more details on how you perform the mounting so I can reproduce? Thank you.

Thank you Mounir for finding the issue and getting a new beta released!

I have just upgraded to beta 5 and will let you know if the problem reoccurs since the issues did not occur immediately.

Below is a timeline of when the issues started occurring on beta 4 on my system:

    • Upgraded from beta 2 to beta 4 and rebooted PC when prompted. Recall that I had restored my C drive image back to the beta 2 image when I encountered BSOD on beta 3.
    • Enabled RAM encryption and rebooted PC.
    • Successfully mounted outer volumes using Favorites with Secure Desktop while protecting hidden volumes.
      • At this moment, no problems accessing the mounted volumes.
      • No issues accessing the outer volume's password field.
    • About 4 hours later, dismounted all volumes and rebooted PC in preparation for imaging my C drive with beta 4.
    • Imaged C drive using Macrium Reflect.
    • Left computer idle with all volumes dismounted for about 3 hours.
      • My PC is set to never sleep or hibernate.
      • I do not use system encryption.
    • Mounted outer volumes using Favorites with Secure Desktop while protecting hidden volumes.
      • This is when the first Favorite volume mount would not let me access the password field of the first volume's outer password field. When I attempted to click on the password field, I got the Windows chime.
      • I clicked Cancel button.
      • I was able to access the password field on the second volume's outer password field.
      • I think I cancelled the second volume and re-attempted the mounting of outer volumes using Favorites with Secure Desktop while protecting hidden volumes.
      • I was able to access the password field of the outer volume and then click options to enter hidden volume password to protect the hidden volume.
      • The two Favorite volumes mounted with hidden volume protected as the GUI showed Outer.
      • However, when I attempted to access any of the mounted volumes with hidden volume protected, I received the Windows error that I needed to format the disk before I could use it. I did not get BSOD in beta 4.

    .
I have not experienced the issue of not being able to access the outer volume's password field when using Favorites in Secure Desktop until I upgrade to 1.24 beta 3 and beta 4 versions.

The issue did not start immediately. It seem to manifest itself over a period of time.

I forgot to mention that the unable to access the password field issue did not seem to occur each time I used Favorites with the Secure Desktop. When I was unable to access the outer volume password field, it was always the first volume to be mounted.

Thank you again for your continued support of the user community and the great features you are adding to VeraCrypt!

It is very, very late for me. Bonne nuit.

After I imaged my C drive using Macrium Reflect, I left my PC powered on without any VeraCrypt volume being mounted. My PC is configured to not sleep or hibernate.

One detail I failed to mention is I am using a hot key for Mount Favorite Volumes. Control+Alt+M is the hot key. This is how I am engaging the mount Favorites in case that makes a difference.

The problem occurred again. I took more time to determine what was accessible and what was inaccessible.

On both the main password screen and the mount option screen, all keyboard input fields would not accept keyboard input. Clicking on them gave a Windows chime. Attempting to enter characters would cause a Windows chime for each character you attempted to input.

Input fields inaccessible on the password screen:

    • Password
    • PIM value (checkbox worked)

    .
Input fields inaccessible on the Mount Options screen:

    • Volume Label in Windows
    • Password (checkbox Protect hidden volume worked)

    .
All the checkboxes and buttons appeared to be working.

After cancelling the mount operations for Favorites, I hot keyed again to mount Favorites using Secure Desktop and all operations performed normally including my mounted volumes be accessible instead of the Windows error to format the disk as I previously reported for beta 4.

How can you enable RAM encryption? I couldn't find it....

I also having random, rare (about 0,6 per day) blue screens since 1-2 months, and after a lot os struggling, it seems the solution is simple: don't mount veracrypt volume.

I've changed nothing just updating veracrypt at the end of may.
