I encrypted a drive using a Windows PC and copied data on it. The files are in various sizes, but mostly between 3 and 5GB.
It works perfectly on my windows machine, but using it with my second PC (Ubuntu), I get a lot of problems.
Mounting and reading from the volume works fine, but when I want to copy files, something weird happens: The PC gets stuck for a while and nothing happens anymore. Waiting for a couple of minutes, an error occorus (Error copying files, input output error). All connected devices to the Ubuntu PC stop working (Even wireless mouse, bluetooth keyboard...) until I restard the PC.
When I connect the drive back to the windows PC, I get the error that it was not unmounted properly and needs to get scanned. This results in a lot of errors in the folder that was created with the Ubuntu PC until the scan fails at some point. Other than that I can still mount the drive and read the data that was initially copied onto it via the windows PC.
For enctyptino I used the standard settings (AES, SHA 512)

I made a lot of tests during the last days.
    The error persists when

    • Creating the volume with different windows machines (tested 3 different windows PCs: 1 laptop and two modern desktop PCs to encrypt the drive)
    • Mounting the volume on different Ubuntu machines (tested 3 different ones, one of which was a raspberry, one a laptop and one a modern PC)
    • Using different filesystems (tested exfat and NTFS)
    • Using a hidden volume or a normal volume
    • Using different harddrive (tested 3TB, 4TB and 20TB ones, all pretty new ones that I scanned for errors before encryption)

In order for someone to replicate your issue, what are the specific versions of Windows OSes and Ubuntu OS along with the specific versions of VeraCrypt on the OSes?

Also, are you using on Windows the VeraCrypt portable or installed versions?

I am having the latest Versions installed with all updates available.

For Windows: Win 11 Home 23H2 and VeraCrypt 1.26.15
      Ubuntu: 24.04.1 and VeraCrypt 1.26.14

For both, it is the installed version of VeraCrypt, not the portable.

Recently I had VeraCrypt 1.25.9 installed on both devices, thats when the error first occured. The recent tests were done with the new versions.
