First, let me thank you for any help you can give. My problem is that when I turned on my computer this morning, I can no longer mount my Veracrypt encrypted volume. The program acts as it does when I put the correct password in (i.e., the wait bar goes by two times before the main screen of Veracrypt in the background creates a ghosted red square over the "x" in the top right corner), but then it seems to recycle and goes much long and says that the operation failed due to "-incorrect password...Incorrect Volume PIM number...Incorrect PRF (hash)...Not a valid volume". After this it says Source: MountVolume:8031." Can anyone help? I am in a bit of difficulty without this partition. Knowing computers, I know I should have backed it up elsewhere, but I haven't had problems with it ever before. Please help!

For non-system encryption, try mounting using the option of embedded backup header.

I appreciate the help and tried to mount it using that option, but it still gave me the same error. The last time I mounted the partition was Oct. 30 and it worked fine. Could the partition be corrupted? I have it located on my system SSD drive and Win 10 works fine, as do my other programs. And, I do not remember anything weird happening with my PC this week.

It would be unusual that both the primary header and backup header are corrupted since the backup header is written at the end of the volume.

Have you displayed the password to make sure you are entering the password correctly?

Is the hash (PKCS-5 PRF) set to Autodetection?

Did you use a custom PIM value?

I have checked the password and it is correct. And, the hash is set to Autodetection. And, I did not use any custom PIM value (not sure what that is, sorry, I am a bit ignorant of these matters). So, I hope I did what you asked above correctly. I opened VeraCrypt, selected the file, chose "Mount volume with options," checked "Use backup header embedded in volume if avaiable" and clicked OK, and then entered the p/w. And, the same result followed. And, I might add that after I did that, Veracrypt seems to just keep running, locking up my screen until it is closed out. And, even when I close VeraCrypt out and open it up again, when I put my cursor over it, I get a busy cursor. BTW, after VeraCrypt failed to open my encrypted partition after several attempts, I updated VeraCrypt to the latest version to see if that would help (probably a dumb thing to do), but the same results have followed.

Sounds like a program may be interfering with VeraCrypt.

    Try disabling Anti-Virus software.

Hey, started my computer today and used the backup header and tried two different versions of the same password (one with a capital letter and the other without) and it worked. Thanks for the info!
