Sorry about that, we mirror our archives on SF.net (among other places) and SF.net apparently changed some policies that were filtering you. I think it's fixed now... if not, e-mail me directly and let me know. begin quote: On 03-07-20, Torsten Giebl wrote: > Hello ! > > In the last days i always get mails like this. > Is there a way to subscribe to Sourceforge Tuxtype-Dev > Mailinglist also ? > > > CU > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <tux...@li...> > To: <wi...@sy...> > Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2003 10:13 PM > Subject: Your message to Tuxtype-dev awaits moderator approval > > > > Your mail to 'Tuxtype-dev' with the subject > > > > Re: [Tuxtype-dev] FPS Definition in laser.c > > > > Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval. > > > > The reason it is being held: > > > > Post by non-member to a members-only list > > > > Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive > > notification of the moderator's decision. > > > > _______________________________________________ > Tuxtype-dev mailing list > Tux...@tu... > http://tux4kids.net/mailman/listinfo/tuxtype-dev > -- Sam Hart University/Work addr. <ha...@ph...> Personal addr. <cri...@ge...> Alternative <cri...@tu...> end _______________________________________________ Tuxtype-dev mailing list Tux...@tu... http://tux4kids.net/mailman/listinfo/tuxtype-dev |

I am still "on vacation" so I don't have access to a computer with source c= ode, but the main reason it is there is because that is how Tux of Math C= ommand did it :) We can work on fixing it next week... moving as soon as I get back. The segfault seems to occur all over the place. I've included some of my stderr.txt files with tuxtype -d output to show you where the segfaults are occuring: http://raman.physics.arizona.edu/screens/tuxtype/errs/ As you can see, there doesn't seem to be much of a consistent patern. -- Sam Hart University/Work addr. <ha...@ph...> Personal addr. <cri...@ge...> Alternative <cri...@tu...> end _______________________________________________ Tuxtype-dev mailing list Tux...@tu... http://tux4kids.net/mailman/listinfo/tuxtype-dev |

The issue with the comet zap not caring what order you type in is because i=
t was a quick hack to the add_comet function... basically I add 1 comet =
per letter in the word, and the rest of the code doesn't know there is a =
connection between them. This can be solved (in much the same way we sol=
ved it in in Casacde), but it hasn't been high on the priority list thus =
far :) =20
It is definitely something to fix before 2.0
Also, we readded the -d or --debug mode to the stuff (like you used to do S=
am :) )
So running in that mode will print MUCH more! I would be very interested i=
n crashes, since I am to a pointer where on PPC Linux, x86 Linux and wind=

Subject: Re: Re: Re: [Tuxtype-dev] about 1.5.1
Excellent! The speed seems much better than the last time I checked (at=20
least, it does under Windows, I need to check it on my home linux box as=20
well).
The installer is excellent, but what happenned to the icon? :-(
I am getting pretty frequent crashes still under Windows (I did for the=20
last one) in various places (usually about 2 minutes or so after running=20
the application)... with only this in the stderr.txt file:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
One problem that my wife pointed out to me (but I've been too busy to=20
mention on list) is that, with the comet zap word games, you can very=20
easily screwup your game by mistyping letters that are in other words.
In other words, if you have "TOUGH" and "THING" falling like this:
THING
TOUGH
and you type "T", "H", "O", "G", "N", you wind up getting this confusing:
THI G
U H
on-screen. This makes the game very confusing (I took a screenshot=20
illustrating this you can see here:=20
http://raman.physics.arizona.edu/screens/tuxtype/ )
I'm not sure how to fix this, but it would be a pretty big problem with=20
younger players (it essentially takes the emphasis off of "words" and=20
places it on "letters", which isn't the desired effect for a word game).
Anyway, regardless, I'm really impressed with tt2 so far, and I'm sure=20
these issues will get resolved before 2.0 ;-)

>9.0/slackware/d/automake-1.7.3-noarch-1.tgz Wow Torsten, I've never even anywhere near that close to getting it to work with automake 1.7.3. I readded acinclude.m4 to cvs which might take care of that issue for you.... (However I don't believe thats the right way to do it) I made a couple of other changes in CVS that my be better for you too... My vote would be to drop SL's AM_PATH_SDL in favor of standard lib checking... Given the timing tho, I don't have the time to work on it right now... the application)... with only this in the stderr.txt file:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
One problem that my wife pointed out to me (but I've been too busy to
mention on list) is that, with the comet zap word games, you can very
easily screwup your game by mistyping letters that are in other words.
In other words, if you have "TOUGH" and "THING" falling like this:
THING
TOUGH
and you type "T", "H", "O", "G", "N", you wind up getting this confusing:
THI G
U H
on-screen. This makes the game very confusing (I took a screenshot
illustrating this you can see here:
http://raman.physics.arizona.edu/screens/tuxtype/ )
I'm not sure how to fix this, but it would be a pretty big problem with
younger players (it essentially takes the emphasis off of "words" and
places it on "letters", which isn't the desired effect for a word game).
Anyway, regardless, I'm really impressed with tt2 so far, and I'm sure
these issues will get resolved before 2.0 ;-)

We made a change to the way things fall in cascade... (as well as comet zap= ). Since the code is the same whether you choose alphabet or a wordlist, the w= ay that we slow down words is to: set maximum_fall_rate =3D 1.0 (or whatever in playgame.h -- diferent for e= ach level) Then for each word we multiply that speed by 0.9 for each letter that the w= ord is (ok length - 1 really) Then for some varience we multiply that by a random value between 0.5 and 1= .0 So=20 fall_rate =3D max_fall_rate * pow(0.9, strlen(word) - 1) * (random between = 0.5 and 1.0) That enabled us to set the speeds for easy/medium/hard to be good for just = the alphabet and also to slow down when the words are used! We did a som= e testing and it seemed to be good, but only time will tell ;) We'll continue to tweak! I spent too long testing it myself before we test= ed on Kids (and I type too fast ;p ) Jesse -----Original Message----- From: Sam Hart <ha...@ph...> To: tux...@tu... Please unsubscribe me. I do not understand anything that you are sending me. All I ever wanted was to download the game for my handicapped grandson. If you can send me information on that then okay but other wise take me off of your mailing list. Sherry |
