I've uploaded Tux Paint 0.9.16, Tux Paint Config 0.0.7 and Tux Paint Stamps 2006.10.21 to my FTP site and to SourceForge.net. I have not yet activated the links on the website, or sent any announcements. John, can you put together Win32 builds today? :) Thanks!!! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

I apparently had installed Tux Paint Stamps before, so they were already
available in my new Tux Paint, but I played with the installer anyway.
WHen I tried to install for All Users, I got a window full of permission
errors from 'tar', but otherwise, the other two options ("Current User",
and "Application") worked fine.
If/when you can get around to adding a set of checkboxes that list
the various stamp categories (it's simply the top-level set of directories
inside 'stamps'... see the Makefile, or the screenshot of the Win32
installer I posted the other day), please let me know.
In the meantime, I won't let lack of that stop me from releasing the
new version.
Thanks, Martin!

Thanks, Song. That's very useful info to have. But after further discussion with AndrewLee on #dot, I have learned that Arphic Inc. wants to sue the Wangfonts author, which brings the GPL status of the font into question. This is why it hasn't yet been packaged for Debian. However, we don't yet know the outcome. Do you have any info about this? I'll post Tux Paint Stamps installer tonight, once I get some new webhosting in place. (Box.net has a 10MB file upload limit for freebe accounts). Martin |

Only problem is, my university web account was shut down this evening - I finished my masters over a year ago, so I was expecting this to happen at any time :-) Is there a public space where I can upload the disk images? Hi Martin - you haven't happened to look into why Tux Paint prints sideways (and cut-off) by default on Macs, have you? :) I'm not too concerned about this for the upcoming release, since they can hold Alt/Option to get a printer dialog... but that in itself is a little messed up, too. (See the bugs in SourceForge.) Just wondering if you've looked into it yet. Thanks! PS - Were you going to send me a beta version to try out on my PPC Mini? :) (Once you tell me "go", I'll release the real, final 0.9.16. :) ) Thx! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

AndrewLee tells me ArneGoetje is both the Debian maintainer and upstream for uming, and is quite active maintaining his package. I think this is a strong argument for switching Tuxpaint to use uming and not worry about getting wangfonts packaged for Debian. Andrew encouraged me to contact Arne at ar...@li... if we discover any problems with substituting uming for wangfonts, and Arne will quickly provide us with a fix. The only issue is this one: http://lists.debian.org/debian-chinese-big5/2005/02/msg00019.html In this message, Ming Hua states: "Arphic license is NOT GPL compatible". This causes problems for including the font in Tuxpaint upstream, but not for Debian because I'm not including the font in the GPL-licensed Tuxpaint. In theory, Tuxpaint upstream could solve the problem the same way, by distributing tuxpaint-font-zh_tw as a separate package under the Arphic license, though this would be cumbersome, and may not therefore be worth it. If Debian does continue to diverge from Tuxpaint upstream because we use a different font for zh_tw, I worry about possible support issues in future due to this difference. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Ben |

Simply lack-of-feature. :) It might be nice to have stamp-like outlines for the round erasers, and for the paint brush tool, as well. (Or perhaps some alpha-blending, as a= n option for people w/ high-end systems?) -bill! |

Just a question: I see the eraser outline is always a square, even when the= =20 eraser shape is round. Is this a bug or a feature? :-P I see it that way in Windows, running inside a window. cheers. Dear Ben, I prefer use the wangfont subset, because there have Bopomofo symbols in the wangfont's right side. Bopomofo, a semi-syllabic script used in Taiwan mainly to help teach children to read. After a recent apt-get dist-upgrade on my debian box, my children came running, 'dad, there is a lot of new things in tuxpaint!!!' They have still not started to use the slide show features, but they are really happy for the other new things. A big thumbs up to all of you! Morten |

Actually, I don't work there any more, I got an offer at a new place (doing similar stuff). However, my favorite coffee shop is a block away, so I can probably swing by some morning and give it a go. (And hopefully the Mac Geniuses there won't kick me out for messing around.) > Also, add the following paragraph to the font webpage: > http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/fonts/ Updated, thanks! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

I'm pretty much ready to make a release here as well. I'll package a new Mac version tomorrow, and I'll let you take it for a final run through, Bill. Would you have a chance to run it on one of the Intel Macs at the store across your street? I just want to be sure that the universal binary works fine. Also, add the following paragraph to the font webpage: http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/fonts/ Mac OS X users can download the ".tar.gz" archive of the desired font. Once extracted, double click the font file and click the "Install Font" button. Alternatively, drag the font file into the / Library/Fonts folder (if you want to make it available for all users) or the ~/Library/Fonts folder (if you want to make it available just for the current user). Thanks! Martin |

I see Martin is still working on a few Mac OS X things. Is there anything major that I should wait for you on, before releasing 0.9.16 officially? John and Ben, anything in the Win32 or Debian worlds we need to worry about? I haven't heard much else, so I assume everything else is suitable. I've got a few Catalan updates to drop in, but otherwise, I'm pretty much set -- just waiting for Martin to catch up. Thanks! :) -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |
