Just something I rec'd a while back, and am only now getting to. Do we have any progress on the Mac OS 9 or X ports? I hope to have the release management app ready this week so that next week, if needs be, we could make a release. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Tux of Math Command now categorized as MacOS 9 on SourceForge.net Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 16:53:12 -0800 From: <joh...@so...> To: <cri...@us...> Dear SourceForge.net user, You are receiving this because you have a project in the MacOS trove category (http://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trove_list.php?form_cat=221). This is to inform you that in order to facilitate better categorization, we will move your project to the MacOS 9 category, which is a subcategory of MacOS. If your project is actually specific to MacOS X, please change it to the MacOS X category in the trove map as soon as possible. If you are happy to have your project in the MacOS 9 category, then you need not do anything. We simply do not want any projects to categorize themselves generically as MacOS, since OS 9 and OS X are radically different from the developers' viewpoint. Thanks for your patience and cooperation. -John Mark Walker SourceForge.net joh...@sf... -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.tux4kids.org/ > |

Okay, whatever the problem was, it was KMail's, as Mozilla mail seems to be reading my messages fine.... So I am back online, /for real/.... I still need to catch up, but you can e-mail me again.... BLARG! Okay, I am not back online yet... My e-mail headers are being garbled along their way to me (I'm not sure where the problem lies). It may be a server issue, or some new oddity in KMail I don't know of. In case no one else has checked the poll results: http://www.geekcomix.com/dm/tuxmath/poll.shtml We have a majority of people saying that they want the animation to remain the same (57.5%), so I say we just leave the animation as is. Honestly, I no longer feel uneasiness about the animation. So let's just press on. By next monday, I will have the new release software online so we should be able to do any releases as necessary then. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.tux4kids.org/ > |

I have a few announcements that should go to the general Tux4Kids audience. Unfortunately, we don't yet have all the appropriate mailing lists set up, so I'm just sending it to our most active projects. Build/Release Support Manager == Calvin Arndt <cal...@ya...> has graciously accepted the task of being the official File Release & Build Support Manager for Tux4Kids. His duties will include coordinating file releases with the projects and assisting with individual projects build procedures (as needed). If you are a project manager, Calvin will be the one you inform of new releases. If you are a binary packager (and want your package released with each project release), then you will work with Calvin to get your package included in each release. We will soon have some new infrastructure servers, as well as some new admin scripts which will make his duties a lot easier. In the meantime, please bear with us as we transition into the new systems. As soon as everything is set up for him, we'll let those involved know (privately) the proper procedures for file releases. PR Support Manager == Cassandra Hart <ca...@ge...> (my wife ;-) has accepted the task of being the Tux4Kids PR Support Manager. She will handle major PR releases and major project announcements. Her duties are still being defined, but any project managers can feel free to contact her in the interim. @Tux4Kids.org Mailing Lists == We will be migrating our mailing lists to @tux4kids.org. We also will be having some core, admin, etc. lists @tux4kids.org. Please bear with us until these are completed. In the meantime, those of you who are supposed to be on some of the new @tux4kids.org lists, plase don't use them yet. I prematurely said that they are ready ;-) Questions? Please direct them (off-list) to me. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.tux4kids.org/ > |

We are going to be having some new hosting services (as I have already mentioned ;-) and I was wondering if I could get everyone's feedback as what's /really/ needed on these machines. Naturally, I want to be frugal with respect to system resources, but I do want to cover all of our current and future project's needs. Here's the few items I am already aware we will need: * CVS - http://www.cvshome.org * CVSWeb - http://www.cvshome.org/project/www/docs/ddSourceBrowse.html * BugZilla - http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bugzilla/ * Mailing Lists (preferably Mailman ;-) I have also been taken with Faq-O-Matic: http://faqomatic.sourceforge.net/ We will probably also need some sort of simple news/announcement app for each subproject (for making web announcements or project news). Something like Slash would be way overkill for this, but a blog would be too simplistic. As far as Wiki's are concerned.... I've found these to be not very intuitive for non-technical people (meaning, they'd probably be useless to much of our intended audience). Plus, there are so many Wiki's to choose from, I'd have no idea which were good and which weren't. Anyway, please send me feedback of your opinions. We will soon have a tux4kids-core mailing list where these items can be discussed, but for now, I'm forced to use the existing mailing lists of our most active projects ;-) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

No, but it may change locations for future list archives. I suspect that we could keep the Geocrawler account for it, but I am not certain (heck, at the very least we could remove everyone from the existing SourceForge lists, and then have the new lists CC everything to the old SourceForge ones and use them as a middle-man for list archives ;-) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

No one answered this yet, so I am taking that as meaning that no one objects to my plan ;-) I will go ahead and proceed with it then, keeping TuxMath, TuxTyping & TuxReader on their SourceForge or Savanah sites, but moving their mailing lists elsewhere. When this happens, we will make an announcement, and if you want either us to move you over to the new list, or you would like to move yourself, feel free to let me know. I dont have an ETA on this move, BTW, but I would wager it would be within a week or two. Hey all, It looks like we may be able to get some supplimental or even replacement project hosting outside of SourceForge, so I was wondering what everyone's opinion on the matter was? Here's the deal, SourceForge has hosted TuxType for almost a year now (over a year?) and it has hosted TuxMath since its start. SourceForge is a great service to the community, and I don't want to disparage (sp?) it at all. All of the issues that I have started having personally with it have been very recent ones (the mailing list munging issue is one that comes to mind...) However, we could *probably* get SourceForge software installed elsewhere, where we would have more of a say in the admin of the system, and move parts or all of our projects to them. So what does everyone think of the subject? Personally, to give you some idea of my thoughts on it, here's the direction I'm leaning: * Keep the TuxType, TuxMath, and TuxReader projects primarily hosted on their relative sites (SourceForge and Savannah), using this secondary service as a replacement for the particulars of SourceForge or Savannah we dont like (such as moving the mailing lists to the secondary service). * Place future Tux4Kids projects on these new secondary servers. * Do most, if not all, sub-project website hosting on these new secondary servers. (For example, www.geekcomix.com/dm/tuxmath/ would be moved to these new servers, and the core development team would have access to the servers for website updating [meaning I could finally start delegating the web and PR stuff to other people]) Comments? Suggestions? BTW, it's likely we're going to be seeing some growing pains as an organization over the next few months, so I hope you all can be patient as we wrangle with new issues and possibilities ;-) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

You probably could just mimic what I've done with the other releases to place it there. Or, if you wanted, you could wait and we could coordinate a t8ime that you upload this file, and I make the release. (Actually, I guess it really would behoove us if I were to get some sort of different server for our webpage... something that I would be able to get us more accounts for for filereleases .... Right now, the server we are using, and the one we will be using, does not allow that :-/ ) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

I just realized that tux of math command really reminds me of the old Comma= nder Keen days. Or at least the menu ;) Anywayj, the only issue I have left with finishing the txutype port to mac = is getting a serial for the installer, so I have been thinking about star= ting to see how hard the port of tuxmath will be. I also was wondering i= f you (Bill) were still interested in some of your other apps being porte= d? Jesse |

Let me know if interested. > Hey, is there a general "tux4kids" mailing list? :) There will be after the domain comes up. The one thing I'm looking to try and resolve is what to do with archives. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |
