I think you're probably going to have a hard time building the the iso image with anything other than mkisofs. I really doubt that winiso has support for isolinux, which is what Trinux uses to boot itself (it replaces the traditional El Torrito floppy boot image). --Patrick. |

Dear Sir, We are sending this letter to you based on information gathered from the foreign trade office of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and industry. We believe that you would be in a position to help us in our bid to transfer the sum of forty-0ne million, five hundred thousand dollars ($41.5m USD)into a foreign account. We are members of the special committee for budget and planning of the Ministry of Petroleum, this committee is principally concerned with contract appraisals and approval of contracts in order of priorities as regards capital project of the federal government of Nigeria. With our positions, we have successfully secured for ourselves the sum of forty-one million, five hundred thousand united state dollars(us$41.5M). The present government in my country, are seeking re-election for that they want the support of foreign government, so they have given directive to all federal parastatals to settle all foreign contractors being owed for contract that they have done. So our plan is to include the name that you will provide as one of the contractors being owed in my corporation. What we need from you is to provide a safe account into which the funds will be transferred since government officials are not allowed by our laws to operate foreign account. It has been agreed that the owner of the account will be compensated with US$8.3 Million of the remitted funds, we keep US$31.125Million while US$2.075Million will be set aside to offset expenses and pay the necessary taxes. It may interest you to know that two years ago a similar transaction was carried out with one Mr. Patrice miller, the president of crane international trading corporation at number 135, east 57th street, 28th floor, New York 10022 with telephone (212)308-7788 and telex number 6731689, after the agreement between both partners in which he was to take 25%, the money was duly transferred into his account only to be disappointed on our arrival in New York as we were reliably informed that Mr. PatriceMiller was no longer on that address while his telephone and telex numbers have been reallocated to somebody else, that is how we lost US$27.5M to Mr.Patrice Miller. This time around we need a more reliable and trustworthy person or a reputable company to do business with hence this letter to you, so if you can prove yourself to be trusted and interested in this deal then we are prepared to do business with you. What we want from you is the assurance that you will let us have our share when this amount of US$41.5M is transferred into your account. If this proposal satisfies you, please contact me through e-mail stated above so we can advice you on the modalities of the transaction. All modalities of the transfer have been worked out and once started will not take more than 7 working days with the absolute support of all concerned. This transaction is 100% safe now and after the transfer. Please treat as urgent and very confidential. God be with you as I look forward to your reply. Best regards. EngineerMUSA EGOBIA |

Sorry the documentation is so poor. Most people (including myself) consider it a pain to muck with the initrd (more specifically to edit linuxrc). if you look in /sbin/net-start you'll see the following files are used: /etc/tux/config/gateway - this is default route /etc/tux/config/dns - dns server (I think only one) /etc/tux/config/eth[012...] - ip netmask|dhcp To allow customization without manually editing the linuxrc there are several files within /etc/tux/init/ that you can put in commands you want executed root@mfranz-ppro:/trinux/initrd/working# grep "tux/init" linuxrc chmod a+x /etc/tux/init/first 2> /dev/null if [ -x /etc/tux/init/first ] . /etc/tux/init/first chmod a+x /etc/tux/init/prenet 2> /dev/null if [ -x /etc/tux/init/prenet ] . /etc/tux/init/prenet if [ -x /etc/tux/init/postnet ] chmod a+x /etc/tux/init/postnet 2> /dev/null . /etc/tux/init/postnet chmod a+x /etc/tux/init/prepkg 2> /dev/null if [ -x /etc/tux/init/prepkg ] . /etc/tux/init/prepkg chmod a+x /etc/tux/init/last 2> /dev/null if [ -x /etc/tux/init/last ] . /etc/tux/init/last I usually add routes or other stuff like firewall rules to /etc/tux/init/last or sometimes interfaces. I don't manually change the initrd, but I do use the other hacks. - mdf > I know that 5sep02.iso is early in development so > some changes may be undocumented. > > My question relates to how best config networking. > Right now I am doing it manually by adding the necessary > components with ifconfig; route add; editing /etc/resolv.conf > and /etc/hosts. I know that 5sep02.iso is early in development so some changes may be undocumented. My question relates to how best config networking. Right now I am doing it manually by adding the necessary components with ifconfig; route add; editing /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts. I know there is a setup in the tux/config area for this purpose already. So which is better? Should I edit the files in initrd if I know they will be static or do something with tux/config? Just curious, what is the reasoning for having the tux/ config setup in the distrib as opposed to editing initrd directly? User friendliness? -- Bill Amsterdam, NL |

Below is the output for df on my Thinkpad 600e running the 5sep02.iso with a custom kernel. When I last attempted to install a lib package I was informed I was out of space. That would appear to be correct looking at the capacity of /. My questions: Anything obvious I should do to switch things around? I am considering the addition of another mount point to accommodate just the lib. Not sure how to do this but I assume I could edit something in initrd. Which file there? Content? Another consideration, if I were to compile and build a larger kernel, would it fit in the space presently reserved for it or do the mount points automatically adjust with size changes in the kernel? I'm using the cdrom version as well and it seems to be pretty straight forward to muck around with adding new packages and rebuilding iso images. All you really need to do is take a look at the way the tarballs are put together and you should be able to build your own stuff to fit in there as well. I also went ahead and wrote a script to grab any new kernel modules and repackage the kpkg tarballs. You'll need to stick this script in your kpkg/ directory and run it. Let me know if anyone finds it useful and I'll spruce it up a bit. I also created a directory called /usr/src/trinux with the 2.4.19 kernel source code and have been building modules there. Have fun, --Patrick. -------------------------->8 snippy snippy 8<------------------------- #!/usr/bin/perl $BUILD_DIR = '/tmp/trinux-build'; $SOURCE_DIR = '/usr/src/trinux/linux-2.4.19'; $TAR_DIR = '/tmp'; while( <*.tgz> ) { $package = $_; `rm -rf $BUILD_DIR` if -d $BUILD_DIR and $BUILD_DIR ne '/'; mkdir $BUILD_DIR; ( $name ) = $_ =~ / (?:\/|) ( .*? ) $ /x; `cp $name $BUILD_DIR && cd $BUILD_DIR && tar -zxf $name`; $files = `find $BUILD_DIR`; @drivers = grep( / \.o $ /x, split( /\n/, $files )); for( @drivers ) { ( $name ) = $_ =~ / .* \/ (.*\.o) $ /x; $file = `find $SOURCE_DIR -name $name`; chomp $file; if( ! $file ) { push @not_found, $name; next; } `cp -f $file $BUILD_DIR/lib/modules`; } `cd $BUILD_DIR && tar -czf $TAR_DIR/$package .`; `rm -rf $BUILD_DIR` unless $BUILD_DIR eq '/'; } if( @not_found ) { print "Your build is missing these kernel modules:\n"; print map { " $_\n" } @not_found; } > Since the package is installed on ramdisk, I am > not sure if you want to dl and install all the packages. > In my case, I ran out of space on one of the packages. > I guess I need to remove something to install more. > If you are storing the packages on a disk, then I guess > you would just go to the DL site (mirror) and get them that > way. Jim, I am new to this as well but very happy so far. I am using the cdrom version and have the basic packages already installed. I did pull in a few additional ones and used "getpkg <name>" to both retrieve and install it over the network. Since the package is installed on ramdisk, I am not sure if you want to dl and install all the packages. In my case, I ran out of space on one of the packages. I guess I need to remove something to install more. If you are storing the packages on a disk, then I guess you would just go to the DL site (mirror) and get them that way. I am not sure what command you would use to get it installed from a partition or floppy. Still learning ... BIOS in my computer allows me to boot from USB device. And i suppose you can make bootable partition on that device. -- Eng. Dusan Djordjevic (RHCE) |

That kernel isn't *that* big and I couldn't find anything about limitations using ISOLINUX. Did you re-run mkisofs to create a new .iso as in: ISO="/alt/trinux/trinux.iso" ISOROOT="/alt/trinux/iso" mkisofs -R -J -o $ISO -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table $ISOROOT or did you raw-edit the .iso somehow? I replaced the bzImage on the 5sept02.iso with my own so that I can include extra kernel features. Now the CDROM will not fully boot which I suspect is due to the size of my new kernel. Original kernel = 587K New kernel = 880K There appears to be a hint to what the problem is in the output: "freeing initrd memory : 587K freed" Am I missing a procedure here that sets the initrd memory for the new kernel? All I did it replace the kernel and burn the new CD. I am guessing that this has something to do with building initrd with dd=, but I have no idea what option to adjust _if_ this is what I need to do. Thank you, -- Bill Amsterdam, NL |

I saw you got your answer on the UML list :( As they said. There should be some command-line options to disable xterms. I never got it working. I also never ran Trinux within Trinux like you are doing :) - mdf > I booted up my slackware 2.4.19 kernel and untared the trinux-uml pkg and > ran trinux-uml. everything boots fine but i get an error printed to the > screen repeaditly while trying to do anything inside trinux-uml? > the error is > > trinux# > execlp of xterm failed - errno = 2execlp of xterm failed - errno = 2execlp > of xterm failed - errno = 2 > > is the trinux-uml kernel in debug mode or am I missing something? > thank you > mstrhelix > > _________________________________________________________________ > Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > _______________________________________________ > Trinux-talk mailing list > Tri...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/trinux-talk -- Matthew Franz mf...@ci...
